Ok so i got scammed on Craigslist, looking for a roommate, and got f*cked out of about 8,000 dollars. I'm 20 and live on my own and pay for my own college. Is there anyway i can get my money back?! The company is based in Nigeria. I have already talked to my bank (bank of america) and they cannot help me, they do not cover that "TYPE" of fraud. Is there any companies or anything that can help me get back on my feet or help me pay off the debt i have accuired?! The police officer i talked to when i filed the report for fraud, said that if that company ever got caught i could possibly get my money back, how will i know if they got caught?!

Do you know if Craigslist or anyother companies can help me? Or help me find that company and have them taken out?

theres a saying
if it seems too good to be true
it usually is
nigeria and such places
are corrupt beyond belief
they know everyscam going
probably because they invented
most of them, even donated pc's sent
for their educational benefit, will be used to reactivate/recover personal financial data on the hard disc
previously belonging to the pc doner
and then syphon off his/her money from info
they gather, nothing is missed everydetail of everything
,they will bite deep into the hand that feeds them everytime given the oppurtunity

Disgracefully my friend I think there is little you can do. If the company or so called thing is in Nigeria your chances are near zero. Nigeria is a country with a different law system and this type of bussiness scams are even encouraged by the police out there. Very likely you sent your money to somebody that uses teenagers to send people emails in America and have them send money back. The reason why your bank wont cover it is because you actually and willingly transfered your money to somebody else thinking that you have got a great deal or a legitimate check. The company will never get caught and no legal process will ever start and police in Nigeria are not going to do anything about it. I think the best thing you can do is learn the experience and keep away from strange bussiness coming from Nigeria or places like that. Just live with it because nobody will ever give you back your 8K.

You were looking for the REAL QUICK BUCK. From Nigeria or the UK, the fast fortune caught your eye.
From reading your Q&A's, your an adult child, whether your on your own and in college makes no difference. You can't see beyond your nose and the computer screen. Get angry at me, you just learned a lesson for life. Of all the silly questions and answers placed in this forum you forget to ask about the the fortune you might make from just doing this one thing for this simple favor.
Now you have no problem asking others for help in getting your money back.
Your owtta Luck!!!

Unfortunately I think you may be out of luck and you may have to chalk this up to a learning experience. Remember one thing though, Nigeria is the one of, if not the scam capital of the world and anything that has to do with it should be avoided like the plague, and that goes for anyone reading this, avoid anything that has anything to do with Nigeria, and make sure you tell everyone you know about this too.

there are warnings all over craigslist about NOT cashing checks that someone sends you. They have been doing this type of fraud for a long time.
Sorry but you probably will NEVER get any money back.
I suggest you call your state's/ city's district attorney or consumer protection agency.
But you still will never get any money back.

Since it's out of Nigeria, the odds of you getting your money back are tiny. Sorry about your luck.
Out of curiosity, would you be willing to provide more details on how the scam was done?

What were you thinking sending anyone you didn't know or know anything about $8,000.00?
Honey- you are just screwed. Contact Craigslist and see how much help they can offer- take every lead they offer you and FILE A POLICE REPORT
Add: So someone you didn't know sent you a check for $8,000.00 and you cashed it- yeah that doesn't sound any smarter sorry.

I'd contact the officials at Craigslist they should be able to do something. Why would you even fall for anything that has "Nigeria" in it?
