I believe part of his agenda is to try to align himself with the black community. He is making a huge mistake by picking Big Al to be his poster child. Shows an incredible lack of judgment on the part of Obama.

Maybe he isn't rude and wont reject the company of an individual because it might make him look bad. I've hung out with many different folk that look freaky, doesn't mean I view the world as they do, just means I am their friend.
After some research:
Sharpton Rips Obama, Keeps Endorsement On Hold
http://wcbstv.com/topstories/local_story_071165711.html
Recently, Al Sharpton has continued to rip Barack Obama. Sharpton said:
“Obama never did anything for the community, never worked with anybody from the community, that nobody knows the people around him, that he’s a candidate driven by white leadership,”
Some suspect that Al Sharpton wanted to run for waste his time with the Presidential campaign in 2008. Nobody voted for him before and less would now.
People close to Sharpton say, “It’s driving Al crazy that Obama is as impressive and popular as he is, and he’s not happy about it. Sharpton is just terrified of being overshadowed by someone of Obama’s class and character.”
Too Late.

Is this another right wing spin you are endorsing?

I hope not! Where do people like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson get their Reverend Credentuals? Who do they think they are being part of anything but their church? They are nothing but racists who just want to start s**t. Obama is making himself look bad by having Sharpton anywhere near him. I was all for Obama before I got the news he has a Muslum backround. I'm not voting for him.

The fact that Obama associates with Sharpton is the thing that will hurt him most. Sharpton is seen by most people outside his race, as a hate mongerer. Sharpton's main purpose is to build the division between blacks and other groups, mainly whites. Sharpton is a bigot. Here is one of Sharpton's famous remarks.
White folks was in caves while we was building empires ... We taught philosophy and astrology and mathematics before Socrates and them Greek homos ever got around to it.
If Obama associates with Sharpton, I will not vote for him.

I agree for demographics , but that thought of Al Sharpton holding a prominent position in Federal government scares the hell out of me . I think Obama should be touring with someone less controversial...

He must be. I wouldn't choose Al Sharpton (I refuse to give that man the honorific "reverend", because he insults all true Reverends everywhere) as a representative of, or an appeal to, the Black community.

Your facts are incorrect. Sharpton tends to support Hillary and does not attend Obama rallies. Obama doesn't need to distance himself.

Sharpton has no credibility and he is riding the coattails of Obama, who has a lot more credibility.
Sharpton knows that most people don't listen to him, so he wants to be in Obama's circle so that he can look credible.

Big Al is a race baiter and intolerant of other races. Obama wouldn't give him a job as a dog catcher unless he doesn't want to win the election.

HE IS STILL GOING AFTER THE BLACK VOTE BECAUSE THE AFRO AMERICAN POPULATION IS STILL NOT BEHIND HIM. MAYBE HE THINKS THAT SHARPTON WILL HELP IN THAT ENDEAVOR. THE PROBLEM IS THAT SHARPTON IS HATED BY EVERYONE ELSE SO IT MAY DO MORE DAMAGE THAN GOOD TO KEEP HIM AROUND.
