they're calling it a hate crime? What crime though, how is preaching something from the bible a crime against anyone? When Native Americans use peyote for their religious acts i dont see anyone arresting them for drug use, whats the difference. What i'm really asking here is this, if a preacher is arrested for this doesnt that go against the freedom of religion at all?

This wasn't in the hate crimes bill at all. I've heard some partisan political commentators complain about this legislation because of this very reason, but I read the full text of the bill and not once was speech or opinion linked to the definition of a hate crime.

Its pretty specific that hate crimes are crimes of violence.

NOT ALL Indians use peyote. There are literally a HAND FULL of tribes that use peyote. And even less within those tribes ALLOWED to use it.

It's USE takes place on RESERVATION lands. And so US law does not APPLY as the Rez is a SOVEREIGN NATION.
Aka the US can NOT dictate what can be done in another country.

IF that's all the preacher said, he would not have been arrested. I don't think you have the WHOLE story.

They WILL arrest him IF he said "homosexuals should be stoned" because it's "inciting violence" and he is a 'figure head'

No. Expressing an opinion is not criminal, and that includes expressing an opinion of hatred or prejudice.

The exception is that if the preacher was telling people to go out an attack homosexuals -- that is solicitation to assault, and potentially incitement to riot. And a person can be charged from attempting to cause violence to someone else, whether by words or actions. But it's a very narrow exception.

Unless the preacher was actively and intentionally advocating the the listeners immediately go out and attack other people, then their speech does not fall within the exception and is protected.

But that's just what the law says. The US abandoned the rule of law a few years ago, and now it's just whoever has more power gets to make up the rules as they go along.

AS the liberals are so good at pointing out , this would be a violation of their free speech rights. Saying a lifestyle is wrong is not a hate crime . Doing something violent against them would be a hate crime. Preachers do not point out sin as an act of hate , but as an act of love. Trying to help someone get into heaven is the greatest act of love you can show anyone. Everything a preacher or pastor does is about saving peoples souls and helping them get to heaven. they don't do things out of hate. If they hated these people they would just keep quiet and let them go to hell.

I've heard of this happening in the UK but not the US - I'm not denying that it happened but would genuinely like to no more. If you have an article or link it would be appreciated.

This type of thing is happening more and more often. The liberal form of tolerance is to be completely intolerant to any opposing viewpoint.
