I was actually sitting here and thinking this out.

Maybe I am wrong to suggest that liberals hate America.

Maybe I just disagree with them in which direction America should be heading.

This is not sarcasm or a joke.

I'll have to think on this some more...

Another Perspective-- just because conservatives disagree with you, doesn't mean they don't have brains.

If a con said that about a lib, you wouldn't be happy about it, would you?

Lawrence R-- yeah, there is that ONE idiotic section....but not ALL liberals.

Finally, a Con with a Brain!!!

Yes, we love America like you do, we just have a different view of how the country should go.

We hate terrorists, we hate lazy people, we want illegals out, and we want a good economy.

Addt'l Comments.

Cons insult Libs all the time on here. They question our intelligence, our patriotism, and our sanity.

They say things to indicate that we want Al Qaeda to take over the country and we want terrorists here.

As many times as I've asked the same question as you, and have read it asked by Libs, YOU are the first Con I have ever seen ask that question. I am saying it is an epiphany, a breakthrough, progress, etc.

Yes, you are correct in saying that and I appreciate your non-liberal bashing reasonable perspective. There is way too much mudslinging from side to side, especially on Y/A! I think one of the "directions" I, as a liberal, would like to see America going is a more respective, kind, logical, peacefull way. And to have polititions understand more what the other party is saying and realize that while the dont agree with someone that doesnt make that someone dumb, or wrong, just that they have a different opinion. I learned that in kindergarten so I find it shocking that the polititions still dont seem to understand it!
I LOVE America! I just dont love Bush.

It's always dangerous to think in blanket statements. I think the majority of people all want the same things when they get down to it: We want to be able to provide for ourselves and our family. We want to be safe. And if we can manage it, we all want to take a nice vacation from time to time.

The main debate we have is how we get there. Do we get there by ourselves or do we have the government help to get us there? Globally how will we interact with our neighbors, both those who are our friends and those who don't like us? We struggle to answer that because both defined sides have ideas that are beneficial and ideas that aren't.

A liberal may clasify themselves as such and still hold some beliefs that are conservative. A conservative may hold beliefs that are far more liberal than any of his counterparts. Blanket statement about one side or the other shuts down debate. No one wants to talk to someone who thinks they are an idiot. So when the bomb throwers are going full bore on the board, no one talks about ideas. They talk about "Liberals are..." or "Cons are ..." The name calling is bogus.

Maybe taking a step back from time to time will allow us to clear our lenses a bit and talk about ideas from time to time.

Yeah, you're right. We love America, that's why we care enough to speak out and try to change things she's doing when they seem wrong and bad for her. Even though I've been disgusted by the Bush administration and the Congress before it became Democratic, and I've been disgusted with other Republican administrations and Congresses in the past, I still love this country and feel proud of it. I know the words to the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance and stand and put my hand on my heart when they're sang or spoken. I own a flag, know how to fold it, know not to fly it at night or in a storm or to let it touch the ground and when it's appropriate to fly it at half mast and I would NEVER burn one (and I lose a lot of respect for those who do even though I believe it is a protected right). I honor veterans, especially those who have fought in wars. I vote in every election. I work for a living and gladly pay my taxes because I know that they go to help my country and the people in it (even if some of them get used for things I don't like).
I love Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Eisenhower even though they were Republicans and none of them were perfect (Teddy's foreign policy was a little off in my book but his domestic policies more than made up for it, for example), but no one is.
Just because you love a person, you wouldn't let them do something you thought was truly wrong. If your friend or loved one had habits like stealing or being violent or self-destructive, you'd try to help them change, wouldn't you? That's the same way I feel about America and issues like the War in Iraq, healthcare, the PATRIOT Act, the Military Commissions Act of 2003, and the middle-class squeeze. I love the country, but want to help it get over it's problems. I think that's what Democracy is about. That's why people have a voice, and a vote, and why we don't have a one-party system.

You really just came to this epiphany?

Liberals and Conservatives both want the same basic things for America, but disagree when it comes to how and who should be included.

I think we can all agree we want to live in a free, safe, prosporous, and healthy nation.

"Maybe I'm wrong to suggest that liberals hate America."

Maybe?
How could you even think this to begin with?

If I had to guess, I would say most of them love LOVE America. ( Being a con/rep does not automatically mean you love America)

They want to go in a direction I do not want to go.

I support lower taxes for ALL Americans. Most liberals want higher taxes for Americans. (Especially the "rich")

My biggest issue with liberals (at least many of them) is that if you disagree with them on certain issues, you are a hateful person. You don't support gay marriage, YOU are homophobic. You don't believe in abortion, YOU are sexist.
You disagree with them on affirmative action, YOU are a racist.

I am sure liberals can make the same argument about conservatives. We can't agree to disagree, or discuss an issue intelligently, so we resort to name calling.

There are wing nut liberals just like there are wing nut conservatives....the worst examples are pointed out by the other side to discredit the entire group. Most people on both sides are honest, patriotic Americans. I sahre some beliefs of both sides and was actually conservative for a lot of my life until the Republican party was hijacked by Neocons.

You are correct in saying that.

It's simply irrational to say that the left sits around rubbing their knuckles plotting way to hurt America, as some people in this venue will suggest.

A professor of mine in a course on political theory (a course on classical liberalism, that is to say, the theories of men like Rousseau, Montesquieu, Locke, Hobbes, etc.) told as that as we write on these philosophers, that we should give charity to their ideas, and not vapidly brush their views off as ridiculous and claim that we know everything.

As you're thinking about this, consider a view with which you disagree, and give the same sort of charity my professor asked us to give to philosophers. Ask yourself why someone would hold this view.

For example, on the abortion issue (assuming you're pro-life). Does a pro-choice individual really hold that view because he or she wants to murder babies? That's what some narrow-minded people might suggest, but if we offer charity to this view, we might find that a pro-choice individual might have a different idea of when human life really starts, or might hold this view to improve the station in life of America's women.

Does offering charity like that mean you have to agree? No, but it should clearly reveal to you that people who disagree with conservative viewpoints don't hate America, but want to improve it in ways that you disagree with.

I think you've found yourself on the ideological fence. With about 70% of the population... most of us are moderate, not liberal, not neoconservative.

It's the FRINGE on both sides that manipulate the facts to push us one way or the other.

Don't pick a side. Make your choices based on who represents your ideals, morals and needs.

The better example is Liberals founded America based on liberal principles and history shows a very sad, sad decline when the Republican Party came to be. The first Republican president, Lincoln, left the Republican party. As did Teddy Roosevelt. Republicans can only love a corporation, not people. It will take another Herbert Hoover, I suppose, to convince the people that people come first, not corporations.

Yes!!!! we have a winner!!! DING DING DING DING!!!

Okay now that my initial excitement is over, I am so happy that a conservative finally respects that Liberals want many of the same things as you, we are just not willing to go certain routes to attain them. We want peace, economic security, fiscal responsibility, and all these things for our future generations also so to include healthcare, environmental stewardship, clean energy etc. I can only hope other conservatives are as open minded as you!
