The more I study human behavior the more convinced I am that man is more controlled by instinct and the unconsious mind. Quite a bit more than man realizes. Think about it and give me some feedback.

Hi there Dr. Sigmund - Don't let your own self introspection cause you problems. The animal instincts are there. We control them through our societal norms that tell us what is right for the community and what is not. For some this might be religion and others it might be the law. Some people do not accept society and operate on the Id. They are anti-social. I can't get into my unconscious mind except through reasoning, speculation, logic and analyzing my own reactions to stimuli. I'm not convinced that instinct is more controlling than society except in the penal system where we house a certain type of people.

I'll have to disagree. Yes, we eat everyday because we get hungry. We breathe automatically and freely. But we conform alot of out instincts to be socially acceptable. Instinct would say find a mate and well, mate. Society says get married. Instinct says sex is for child production, society says sex is for fun/pleasure. Man has conformed many of his instincts and subconscious desires to fit in, thus fulfilling acceptance.

People always will react upon their instinct. In every situartion you do what you feel is right, correct? Often we do not give these decisions a second thought. Sometimes, we live with them the rest of our lives. It just depends on your mind and how you react to different decisions and situations.

I agree. We use our instincts everyday and make unconsious decisions all the time. It is just that most people are to busy to realize that this is happening.

No, the ID does not "control" us. Our EGO, the conscious part of ourselves controls the ID or the primitive urges that arise, that if left unchecked would probably be considered as "inappropriate behaviour" in our current society.

Instinct is tied to your subconscious mind. All information stored in your subconscious dictates instinct. Unconscious mind means you are not connected to your subconscious. If a person behaves unconsciously, consistently, they are sociopaths.........

I would rather say sub-conscious mind as when a mind is unconscious, it stops functioning and goes into a coma!

I think that is true especially of those who really don't give a damn anymore because no matter what they do they never do it right for anyone!
