Dell Inspiron 1420 and 1520 have Intel processors, while the 1521 has an AMD processor but is cheaper. Would having an AMD processor be worse, even if I won't be using the laptop for gaming?

1420: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5250 (1.5GHz/667Mhz FSB/2MB cache)

1520: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5250 (1.5GHz/667Mhz FSB/2MB cache)

1521: AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-56 (1MB/1.8GHz)

Is the difference between getting an AMD and an Intel processor big enough to spend an extra fifty to a hundred bucks?

Also, if you are familiar with any of these laptops, and can tell me anything about them personally, that'd be great! Thanks.

Intel is much more powerful than AMD at the moment, even if it's not for games, everything will generally run better (AMD's only got price going for it with the TL line of processors). Between the options from Dell, the AMD is a horrible processor in contrast.

The 1520 would be better if you were upgrading things like the graphics card and screen resolution, otherwise save your money and go for the 1420 (plus it's smaller and lighter).

Don't listen to the few who get a crappy Dell and thing they all suck, EVERY PC maker has bad hardware at one point. These new Dells have gotten nothing but praise so best of luck. The toughest part is deciding on the color you want!

Totally go with the Dell Inspiron 1420!
You get to choose the color, which is great!
Also, you can customize it so if you like to download music and stuff you can get a faster hardrive. Also you can get a built-in web-cam,blue tooth, and blue-ray! Totally awesome! Also, I'm getting one so I've done lots of research on them. Check out this website!

I seen an AMD Turion 64x2 64 bit built by HP and it was sloooooow. Go with an Intel Duo core.

Yes, Sonys are GEORGOUS, but the keys are rubbish. I can type really fast, but when I used both my Teacher's and my Uncle's Vaios, I cannot type as fast as I can on my acer. I would personally recconend the Dell. They are not so aesthetically pleasing, but are not ugly, and they do not cost as much. Hope it helps!

You should get a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092 with Intel.

Definitely Intel, but not a Dell. I bought one in October and have had nothing but trouble. Go with a Gateway.
