They get upset in that most rationale intelligent people know that once this information is known by the public at large Obama's political aspirations are DOA. This information will be blitzed all over the television should Obama get the nomination or is chosen as Hillary's VP. The Republican Party and by those groups who support the Republican Party are already preparing for it. Obama is dead in the water before he has even started. The argument is not is he a Muslim but rather was he...that is enough to end him.
Contrary to some answers here...it is obvious...discussion of his religion in this context IS going to have a MAJOR effect on his chances in the end.
This is reality. Many Democrats wish to live in Fantasyland under the belief that they can hush such, can make it go away, or that people will just be cool with it.....let them believe as they choose...it only helps the Republicans in the end.

I think people tend to get bent out of shape over twisted truth, not the truth itself. If all you said was that he attended this school briefly when he was 6 or something, you might avoid the criticism. On the other hand, when you make out that he currently IS Muslim and that he has ties to terrorist organizations, that's a bit of a stretch. Are you suggesting that a Muslim cannot convert? If he even ever WAS? I mean, seriously, the school you go to when you're 6 doesn't determine your religious beliefs! Grow up.

Because it's a LIE. If you right-wing bigots were incapable of lying, you'd remain silent.
Look, I'm not saying that Obama is the best choice for President. Although I like him, I think there's about four or five other Democrats in the race who are better qualified. I think he would have been better off waiting until the next time the party's nomination is open, probably in eight years. It's not like he's old, or even, politically speaking, middle-aged. He will get another chance if he doesn't win this one.
But by spreading lies about his faith, you and others like you prove that he is ten times the Christian you are... No, I take that back. I can't say that, because that would be dividing by zero. (We liberals can do math, as evidenced by the fact that, since 1960, only Democratic Presidents have balanced the budget.)
And considering how some of you have knelt at the altars of Reagan, Gingrich, Bush and Giuliani -- and believed that David Koresh had the moral high ground over Bill Clinton and Janet Reno back in '93, when that operation was started under Bush Sr. -- you have no right to call Obama's supporters a "cult."

"Popping into a Christian church every once and a while for a photo shot does NOT make anyone a believer"
And going to a Muslim school when you were a little kid makes you a Muslim for life?
Obama supporters get upset when people say is he a Muslim because it isn't true. Even if it was true, you have a problem with it?
If he worshiped a different imaginary God than your imaginary God?
Why don't you try arguing against his actual political views and ideas rather than on superficial labeling. Is that all you really have to offer? No intellectual criticism? Just ignorant religious prejudice based on lies?

Whether he is Christian, Muslim, Jewish, LDS, Catholic, Hindu, Buddhist, Taoist, Shintuist or Satanist is irrelevent to me. I will not cast a vote for any man or woman that is demanding that our military surrender on the battlefield and sacrafice a democratic sovereign nation that we helped establish.
I've heard all the rhetoric on how Obama was a Muslim and how he attended a Muslim school in Indonesia and how he had also attended a Catholic school for a couple years and it just doesn't matter. Yes I believe that there are Muslims that prefer peace and believe that their God will decide who resides with him in the afterlife, and not man.
Granted that because of the war and politics and the media, we are led to believe that killing in the name of Allah is the only priority in all Muslim's lives, but that's just not the case.
If you want to read about some brutallity and barbaric actions in the name of God, read the old testament or for the Jew, the Torah or the Tenak. The Christians and the Jews are not all out to rape, plunder, pillage and kill, because of these ancient texts, so why would I believe that all Muslims are because of the Koran.
It is not the Muslim, but the "Radical Muslim" societies that are the problem. It is political leaders like Saddam Hussein's government was, and the Governments of Iran and Syria today. It is groups like Hammas, Hezbolah, Al Quida that are at the root of the problems in the middle east and southwest Asia.

The RNC talking points today must have had something to do with Obama's foreign sounding name. If you got your news somewhere other than Fox Noise, you'd know that this garbage has already been discredited. I'm no fan of Obama's and doubt that I'll vote for him, but all of this lying about his childhood is nonsense, and it might be that people get bent out of shape because people like you insist on lying? You suppose that might be it?

What does it matter if he is a Muslim? Romney's a Mormon. GASP!!! Who cares? If he tries to turn this country into an Islamist state, that's what the legislature and supreme court are for. I am not even sure he is a Muslim. So at one point he went to a school, so what. At one point I was in a car accident. Does that make me a bad driver? No, I was once in an accident....

Probably because it is not the truth. While he did attend a school in Indonesia that offered religous classes, including muslim classes, he is in fact a Christian. If you have a legitmate difference with his real political views then voice them. Otherwise you have nothing to add to the politcal debate.

Obama claims to be a Christian and follow the Church of Christ, I think. As for his upbringing, we can leave our roots behind if we choose.
I was raised in an abusive home, and I am far from abusive to my children. I decided to break the cycle, and I did. Obama may have decided to leave his Muslim roots behind.
Or, he could be hiding his real agenda until the election is over. Either way, I agree, just because you do lip service to Christianity, doesn't make you a believer.
I have read about his upbringing, and I am leary of what he will bring to the White House should he be elected, but I somehow don't think he will make it. If he does, then it's in Gods hands.
ADDED:
And it's not his Muslim background that bothers me. It's his political party choice as well as his lack of any experience to speak of, both politically and in life in general.
I trust Hill-Billy even less. She is pure evil incarnate. God help the world if she gets in office.
