I recommend first trying to develop a curiosity about the subject matter: what is this about, and why might it be useful or fun for me? Will it get me a decent job? Will it make me fun for people to talk to? How will this enhance my life, and make me a better person. You see, sheer discipline is mechanical, based solely on techniques that turn your study into even more of a grueling grind that working in a factory. You would begin to perceive each book, every assignment, and all of the lectures and discussion groups as stages of an assembly line. I figure that's not the zone you want to be in. You want to have a personal interest in the stuff you need to study. And that probably changes between the various subjects and the people (like you) who approach them, when it comes down to details.
