He is likely talking about a fusible link at the battery or starter, there not much to replace, get a second opinion before paying to much for the repair. Good Luck and GOD Bless

A pigtail is a term used for a replacement plug for an electrical device anywhere on your car. Basically it is the new plug with several inches of new wire to make it easy to wire into the existing wiring of the car. If a competent technician tells you that you need such a thing it means that there is a plug on some device which has burnt up and the plug itself needs to be replaced. Make your mechanic SHOW you the suspect plug or wire because if it is bad enough to need replacing it will be obvious to most anyone. You don't need to be a mechanic to see when something is burnt up bad enough to need replacing, in most cases. If you have further doubts perhaps you should seek out another shop who's reputation you have checked out. An unscrupulous "mechanic" can cost you an awfull lot of unnecessary money.

I know it sounds strange, but a pigtail is a name for a collection of wires that lead to the same place. Many times you buy them bundled together (it's cheaper to manufacture them that way), and if you were to look at it prior to installing it on your vehicle, it sort of resembles a girl's pigtail (you have to use a lot of imagination).

Basicly, he's telling you that you have a wiring problem. Usually the hardest part about this is FINDING the problem. If he's already done this, let him fix it. Anyone else would probably charge you to double check his diagnosis, plus install the part.

Does sound kind of silly, but the term pigtail is actually the term for an electrical connector.

See example here:

What he is saying is that your electrical wiring became defective. Maybe the wiring connector was bad. It's hard to say.

If it was just a few wires you can simply get someone to crimp them back together. But all he was really telling you is that you have some bad wiring connectors.
