The beauty of a debit card is the ability to see how you spent your money. Each transaction is recorded and you can go thru your statement at the end of the month (or perhaps go online and see it more often) and see exactly how you spent your money.

If you want to do this with cash then you need to take careful notes and keep all of your receipts. If you go all cash, then it is pretty hard to account where every dollar was spent. Not many vending machines give receipts. Besides, not having cash means you won't be hitting the vending machines. That saves a bit of money.

No. I spend more money if I have cash on me. I use my debit card as a credit. I know haow much I have in my bank acount and won't spend more than that. Also, when the merchant runs the card, it will not allow you to use it without sufficient fund in the account, thus avoiding overdrafts.
