Does it really deserve to be in the same class as ampetamines? I also note that GHB and Ketamine are class-c, so this would also mean that cannabis is regarded as more harmful than these two mind-benders.

I don't think it should even be classified as a drug. It's a plant!

The netherlands has very few drug laws, and they have the fewest number of hard drug addicts in Europe, and the most hard drug addicts in rehab in Europe. Cannabis doesnt have to be taken with tobbaco, and although it has carinogens in it that can cause cancer, the THC means that altogether smoking grass (obviously tobacco does counteract this) means you are thirty percent LESS likely to get cancer, as THC kills weak (eg cancerous) cells only.

Noone has ever died of cannabis overdose, and it doesnt affect intelligence in the long term. THC does mean that brain damage is (slightly) more likely, but cannabis also has CBD in it, which is better at preventing brain damage than most perscription drugs, so if cannabis was legal strains could be made that actually reduce the chance of brain damage. Cannabis is the third least addictive of all recreational drugs.

Also the argument about stronger cannabis being available is poor - just like vodka being up to 12 times stronger than beer you just drink less of it. tobbaco (should be class B if system was done properly) and alcohol should be class A if system was done properly) are both much more dangerous than cannabis, but the government makes money off them.

Prohibition simply makes more crime, and makes otherwise law abiding citizens mistrust authority.

I think all drugs should carry a mandatory sentence of 2 years for 1st time possesion. I used to be a heavy drug user and people don't realise what they are getting into.
Cannabis is not the soft drug people think it is, ( check out the word assasin ) I put a 7 lb axe through a tv that my kids were watching at 7 am because I had run out of skunk , and even though I have apologised more than once , the psychological scars are still there. Both of my children are now adults, but they still remember it.
Cannabis is a gateway drug, and it is rare to find people who just stick to cannabis only.

Cannabis needs to be decriminalized. Period. Taxed and sold like tobacco/alcohol. While at the same time creating 1000s of jobs, this would also save BILLIONS for the tax payer. Like we don't have enough to worry about in this country- imagine if it wasn't such a crime to smoke some herb from Mother Nature!

I think the Government should re-classify it alright. Make it legal.
I would much rather be sharing the road with a pothead than with a drunk. The only catch would be that all the highways would have to be made into 4 lanes so it would be easy to pass their slow driving @$$e$. LOL True though.

I think it should be legal for everyone. In comparison, there are SO many more alcohol-related deaths than those realted to cannabis, it's insane.
If the government developed a task force or a Department of Marijuana and figured out how they could regulate it and get a cut of the sales, they'd probably leaglize it. (greedy b@st@rds!) lol.

Just MHO.

I think that it should be legaised! I did a report on it for My Science GCSE coursework last month and it really isnt as bad as ppl make out! Personally I would say its harmless in small doses and is actually less addictive than cigarettes! It can be used to ease the lifestyles of sufferers of particular conditions such as MS and Parkinsons disease.

I can only assume it's because marijuana is becoming more mainstream and has appeal because of its reputation. It's trying to avert people but it'd be more sensible to use a little reverse psychology and take away the illegality, making it less cool to consume it. In reality we all know marijuana never killed anyone and potheads are much more pleasant than drunks or smokers of tobacco cigarettes.

I am not a pot smoker, but I grew up in Europe, where people have a more tolerant view of marijuana. I think it is less damaging than alcohol, and yet alcohol is permitted. I believe it should be legalized, especially for people with doctors' prescription. We have bigger problems with meth and other crazy drugs in this country.
