It is so sad... I'm only 19 and i think i'm more mature than alot of people on here. I'm able to express my opinion without resorting to being rude! x x x

Bunny, You come on the 'news' section and start talking about THE most emotive topic on here, the one that starts the most arguments, gets the most violations, suspended accounts and is the most heated I have ever seen Y/A and then you moan about name calling?!

Dont get me wrong, I agree with you mostly, its just the debates on here sometimes get a bit OTT and theres a lot of mud slinging.

If you are going to stick around, and the more the merrier in my opinion, then get used to it!!

My mother always taught me that being polite costs nothing . I have no problem with people disagreeing with a particular point . But when they resort to personal attack I think that is wrong , they should argue on the principle of the subject not denigrate the individual , no matter how odd the question is .or extreme their view.
By the way in response to another answer to this question , our schools have been on Holiday for 3 weeks already !!

Sour grapes?
Then make vinegar!

Yes, you have a great point...but I'm not sure what you mean by "wick".

The name-calling seems to be especially nasty in the "Politics & Government" and in the "Religion & Spirituality" sections.
Much of which boils down to ideologues demanding and insisting that ONLY their way is the correct way.

What's really sad is that fact that many of these people are supposed to be adults. You expect this sort of behavior from kids and teenagers, so you can't help but think that it looks really bad when it's coming from someone in his/her 30s, 40s, or 50s!

Have to agree Bunny I love a debate and can manage quite well without hurling abuse but some just can't help themselves. As soon as name calling starts or they start swearing I know I have won the argument.

I have had some really nasty emails saying that I was unfair in my opinion etc..ummm how fair is it for someone to threaten you in an email?

That's because their gormless brains don't have the know how to put together a constructive argument or a difference of opinion so, they have to resort to abusive, insulting behaviour. It's pathetic and best ignored although I know it's difficult.

ironically...
most of the answers this question is receiving are comments insulting the people that insult other people in the first place.

these are, after all, only words. words have no power to offend unless you let the words offend you.

The loser is always the one that got abusive, or emails you personally to pish on you. Best to keep as neutral as possible and avoid feeding their demons. I have only had one lot of abuse thank goodness and it came from somone who knew me and found me on here as he knew my nickname.
To the person asking about wick - its another term for nerves
