When you visit a web site, the pages, pictures, etc for each site are stored on your computer. Because your computer only allows a certain amount of har drive space for storing such files, the oldest file are being deleted to make room for new ones. But normally there are files on your computer from the recent pages you have visited. They are referred to as the "history" files.

This is a "left over" from the days of dial up Internet where web pages literally took 15 minutes to load. By saving the most recent sites to your computer, the computer was able to open them quickly from there, rather then from the Internet.

You can clear those files by going into IE, click on Tools, Click on Internet Options, and "clear history" and "delete files".

It depends on what you mean by things. Based on normal settings, web browser cache or store images and files on your computer from websites. It also stores cookies which can contain various information about you as a user i.e., username. You can change settings in your browser to minimize what gets stored or delete this files yourself.

maybe not forever but it does keep a history. You can download crap cleaner and delete that info or go into IE and select tools> internet options hit the deletes and clear history there & set history to 0.
