I've been playing the classical guitar for about a year now and wanted to try electric guitar out as well. I was just wondering, when playing electric guitar is it difficult to remeber all of the chord names and positions. Do you even have to memerize them?

Tips would be great! Thanks!

if you can play classical, electric should be a piece of piss.. can you use a pick? because ur gonna need it..

u know the chords on the acoustic? i don't mean all of the because it takes ages to learn the whole fretboard. but electric guitars use exactly the same concepts as acoustic.. no difference really.

if i was you i would learn all the guitar basics and theory on the acoustic, then when you've done that electric will be sooooo easy. that's what i done by accident. but now that i do play electric, its so easy, even the hard sh*t because you dint have to be as precise as the acoustic..

basically i would recommend getting your music theory down ( this will help sooooo much!!!) and just learn to play the acoustic with a pick.

but i know how poop theory can be, but it will make all the difference, trust me.

still love my acoustic btw

good luck

just keep playing

The chords and notes on an electric are the same. Most generally the electric is easier because the players usually refrain from the more complex classical chords even though they can be played on the electric guitar. I prefer to bar the majors and minors as they correspond to the notes on on the low E and the A strings for ease of remembering what they are.

All chords have to be learned. Often a song can use very few chords.
Some of the hits only use three chords throughout.

it not hard but it is a little annoying, just learn a couple chords at at time and before you know you will have them memorized.
