I was that person, only it was a huge crank problem, and I couldn't hold down a job period. It's sad. Dope doesn't care who it gets. But if she is working that's a good sign. She is hopefully on the road to recovery. Very sad, indeed!

I have known people like your friend and sometimes Niff,I just listen to them because sometimes they need a caring ear and heart . Besides if you listen ,there is always the chance the person might be able to solve their own problems and actually find a helping hand might be right around the corner. Listening and encouragement goes further than any financial help especially if it does not lead to something and shows how wonderful humanity can be to one another just by lending help in time of need.

My company absorbed another business three years ago and the guys that ran that came it to run the whole thing..his plus ours. After a year he left with the shirt on his back because of issues that involved his bad debts before he came in. He had to go to a local church and ask for money and help with groceries. I busted my as$ for that man and he did the same for the same reasons...It took him until a year ago to get back on his feet.

I'm a degreed chemist, and all of our chemical plants are being relocated to china and India. Many of my best friends have gone for years without jobs and they have fallen on tough times. The saddest part is this country could never fight a war without chemicals, and now we need India and China permission to defend ourselves, and that means we are defenseless. Going to a chemistry networking group with my old colleagues is a very depressing experience these days, and it is all so unfair.

Yes, I use to work with some great people but we all got made redundant. It was very sad because i came across this lady which use to work with us who had suffered a heart attack and was elderly, selling eggs on the side of the road because her husband was out of work.It was winter time too..

Sometimes it does. But some times I think it's just karma coming back for something they did. I keep running into a lot of women that I went to school with. They were the "it" girls in school, pretty and popular but also mean and evil. Now they're working in gas stations and fast food restaurants. What goes around always comes back around.

My parents have had a similar experience. Someone that used to work with my dad was getting a divorce from his wife. She claimed to be "seeing the devil" and he didn't want to help her.
It's hard seeing people you used to work with looking different than they used to be. You sound like a compassionate person. :)

When I returned to my home town I discovered that one of my former employers had been sent to prison for robbing a bank. He tried to kidnap a bank vice president in a limo! He was high on crack. It makes me sad that highly intelligent people succumb to this insidious drug.

No I haven't, but what you did for her was wonderful. You talked to her. Some people would have just hidden and got out before she said anything. The world needs more people like you!
