"Kate and Gerry McCann have reportedly said they are willing to quit their jobs as doctors and their home in Rotheley, Leicestershire, and start a new life in Portugal,"

How bizarre. And are they using the fund to continue this rest-of-their-lifetime lifestyle? You bet. And did the people who donated money to the fund realise this at the start? Nope.

I cannot believe they are actually contemplating just living off the million pound fund for the rest of their lives in sunny Portugal and not having to work again. This will probably go down as one of the greatest scams ever pulled off.

falultd - What on earth can being in Portugal do for the McCanns. Remember, they are NOT physically looking for her. And judging by their tans, they aren't spending a lot of times locked away in rooms going over clues.

The people who donated money didnt donate it to them on the basis of helping the parents. They did it to find Madeleine. Them being in Portugal is only sucking money away from valuable search resources such as Private Investigators.

And yes I am a parent, which is why Im so disgusted at the McCanns. I look at my 15 month old child, only slightly younger than the twins were, and then I think of how callous they were in leaving them so they could get p****ed at the bar. They deserve EVERYTHING that they get. Remember, its Madeleine who has suffered here, NOT the parents.

Lynn18050 - Charming language, I hope you don't eat with that mouth, your food will get dirty.

And please don't lie. I have NEVER stated I have 3 kids. Please show me where I said that. Oh you can't?? How strange, but thats OK, just go no making ficticious statements to back up your flimsy argument.

Ms Highwater - You do realise that Stated Aims are not legally binding? Remember most people thought they were giving money to a fund to find Madeleine. So far its been spent on Lawyers, Press People and of course to fund a Villa in the Algarve. So you will excuse me if I don't give the McCanns the benefit of the doubt you seem to be giving them.

I have a pretty good idea of the real reason for Gerry McCann's visit to see his Portuguese lawyers. Goncalo Amaral, the police inspector investigating the Madeleine case, has published a book detailing the evidence pointing to the McCanns' involvement in the disappearance. Of course, Gerry wants to do all he can to prevent an English language version reaching the book stores in Britain hence his discussions with lawyers. I do not believe it has anything to do with searching for Madeleine. The only people who can do that are the police, and he has long since given up cooperating with them.

I have to confess that whilst I still feel very much opposed to what I perceive to be a close to a hate campaign being carried out on here directed toward the McCanns I am now starting to have some doubts about how I view this issue.
I still remain resolutely opposed to any suggestion that they had anything to do with the actual abduction and I am still totally unable to believe that they remain emotionally detached from the plight of their missing daughter as some would suggest.
However, If the money raised to help fund the search for her is inappropriately used to fund a lavish lifestyle in Portugal and allow them never to have to work again, well, suffice it to say I will be a tad pissed off, on top of which I will feel a bit of a twit having maintained the stance on this issue that i have.
But time will tell I guess.
EDIT
Gerry.s
I have 3 children and I do not swear at any of them. (often)
I do not feel that any of them would feel abused either.
Why do you have to imply that the children of (McFan's ) as you put it would be abused etc, I find this comment not only insulting but just the thing to start the **** flying on here again.
Was not really necessary was it and lastly having read some of your previous post I have to say that your opinion on my abilty to appropriatly care for my children is really something I could not give a Rats **** about, and i doubt if anyone else would either.

Actually, they have always said they wouldn't return to England without their daughter, so I didn't expect them to. And as they are learning Portuguese, maybe they do plan to set up an office in Portugal. You are making assumptions which aren't necessarily fact. Who said they wouldn't work again? And is it possible to live off a million pound fund? It doesn't go very far, these days.

Why do you presume that they won't in Portugal? All they have said is that they won't be working or living IN ROTHELEY. What do you find so awful about this decision?
If they did return home, wouldn't you jeer at them for abandoning Madeleine?
Where have they ever said that they won't work in Portugal??? Of course, they will. Please don't make such imaginative presumptions just to tear them down. And do remember that details of the PI hired by them are PRIVATE.
There, you've made me use uppercase again...

From the start, I have always been suspicious about the whole Affair. Questions asked by me ,& hetherto responses ,6 weeks ago reveal uncertainity. What puzzles
me is conflicting stories first given, untruths,& now Murat
is bought into the story again. Sure the Police are not
stupid , far from it. All I ask is, Murat an acquaintance of
Mccanns ? Smell a scam,anyway .

i agree that if they want to stay there. they should not use the fund for them to live there. that should come out of there own money. i think there will be there for a very long time as i cant see them ever finding Maddie. they should get a job in portugal

(don't forget the nursery fees :-)!!)Shocking huh?
Why is it then Dave that people, knowing this, are still so set against you for pointing things like this out?
I sure am glad I never gave money, that is not to say I don't hope they find her cos I do - though its highly unlikely right? I wonder if anyone will try and claim some money back!

once again Dave I agree with you 100%, what good can it do for them to stay in Portugal, they need to rebuild a normal life (or at least a sense of normality - with family around and familiar settings)for their other two children whilst keeping Maddie in the press.

Geez Teddy when I send my kids to school first off it is daytime, and the school is locked so that nobody can get in without buzzing the office. They have adult supervision. Your kids go to a school where the teachers take a break leave the kids alone in the classrooms and go have a drink at the pub next door? Geez I would be finding a new school and well if you are paying for daycare and your daycare provider is leaving your children alone you sould be looking for new caregivers but you basically said you can't be with your kids 24/7 so is it safe make the assumption you have left your children alone while you went to the pub? I sure hope you do not do that to your innocent children who are not old enough to be repsonsible for themselves. I can tell you I never did it. So don't assume all parents go of drinking and leave their kids home alone. 1 and 4 year olds should be supervised by an adult 24/7 and it takes common sense to know that.

Dave I would not be so upset by the fund providing their needs if they did not spend it like they do....their are 4 of them...they could rent a simple little 2 bedroom home or apt not a freakin million dollar villa. I bet Ben Needhams mom wishes she has friends in high places and a million dollar fund so she could still be leaving in Greece in hopes her son will show up on Grandmas farm one day.

I can't believe what i have just read from one of your contributors, how did that diatribe get through the censors?

Whether the family leave or stay will make people upset, and wonder why they contributed, and some will think what they did in leaving their child alone in a room reprehensible, but others who have done it themselves know that you cannot have them with you 24/7, and that it could happen to anyone, at home, in a playgroup or school. It does appear unseemly for the family to be using the money for their own ends, but thats what it was for, to try and find the poor little girl, and quite frankly what would you do in their place, go home and give up all hope of getting your child back, or stay and see if any new evidence arises. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I don't envy them one jot.
