Keep it in an well ventilated area and clean. You can also invest in a cooling pad. They are reltively inexpensive and you can get them at your local computer store. Examples of cooling pads can be seen at the link below.

There are a few different companies out there that make laptop cooling pads. My favorite is made by Antec and goes for $39.99 at their website. It is mainly a pad that you put your laptop on with alot of small holes in it and two fans to keep continuous air circulation to the bottom of your laptop. It is powered by plugging into a USB port and therefore requires no extra AC outlet or batteries. Other than these pads, the best thing that you can do is make sure that all the fan vents on your laptop are not blocked. Don't put your laptop up against a wall or anything else that could block the airflow of the exaust fans. Also, you can try propping the bottom of your laptop up in the back by putting something small under it. This also allows for increased airflow. In the end though, laptops all run extremely hot. Hot enough to where you might think that they have a problem. It's not too much to worry about unless it's freezing up due to overheating. However, anything that you can do to keep your laptop cooler is always good. This will definitly extend the longevity of your laptop's life :o)

I was concerned that my laptop would overheat, especially when I was watching DVDs, so I purchased a cooling fan. I highly recommend the cooling fan by the company Antec. It is thin and completely portable, all you do is plug it into your USB port on your laptop and you're set. It works like a gem, I use it all the time and I've had it for two years now.

Go down to Walmart and purchase one of those laptop fans that sits underneath the computer and constantly blows air up into the computer's bottom. This works excellent for 15" computers or smaller. They don't carry 17" computer ones. You'll have to purchase that online or something. (eBay)
