Yeah, I wouldn't be worried about the law, I'd be expecting the worse - like my house has been burglarized - or something with my family.

If that scenario happened it would 1) be scary, as you mentioned maybe someone in your family was hurt and in the hospital, dead, or some member got into trouble, and 2) that someone has implicated you in something. This kind of thing with police going to anyone's workplace is thoughtless on their part and (if it were not a death in a person's family or something to do with the hospital) then you minds well change jobs as implication or even their visit can halt you from moving up.

That actually happened to me once. I was working as an artist at a tattoo parlor. Two policemen came in and asked to speak to me privately. They had found a body in a nearby park with no identification on him, but he did have a few fresh tattoos. They asked me to look at the crime scene photos to see if I recognized him as a customer. It was pretty creepy...and ever since then I get the chills whenever I see a police car.

That's actually happened to me. My assumption wasn't that something awful had happened to a family member, but I did panic a little at the thought of what the employer might be thinking.

I'd have to say, "do you mean the police are HERE? Because the police are hear doesn't mean anything". And until that manager corrected his/her grammar, I would have no response. Maybe the manager is trying to say, "the police are listening"? Maybe this manager don't speak englush so good?

I'd be concerned, if it was about something that happened to someone in my family or the like, I'd talk to them.
If it was about something I had done, just say 'I have nothing to say', then let them take whatever action they want. in a case like this, I'd file a complaint against whoever let the blighters into my workplace, it's a violation of my company's rules to let outside agencies contact or harass it's employees. they could always stop me on the street or come to my home.

I don't tend to freak out until after the fact. Getting all excited before you know anything is wrong is just silly.
