Not everything is made up of carbon.

Water, for example is made up of hydrogen and oxygen. Not a bit of carbon in sight!

Can't make diamonds out of water.

Not everything is made of carbon
but most living material contains carbon (plants and animals)
Many dead plants decompose over millions of years to form carbon based fuels like oil, gas, coal.
carbon is a very special element in that its properties can vary greatly depending on the structure of the carbon atoms.
ie. it can be a soft material like in graphite, or very hard as in diamonds. It all depends on how the bonds between the atoms are arranged.

We don't literally leave a footprint. That's just the way they are describe our impact to the planet after we've died. Say, if you use a lot of oil and burnt tons and tons, your carbon footprint will be bigger than someone who didn't. The carbon we're talking about is Carbon dioxide, you can't see it as it's too small. A lump of carbon would be something like coal, or the lead in your pencil. Carbon dioxide is it's gas form. We breath it out too. "if people were to burn their rubbish for example disposable nappies in their garden would that leave a smaller carbon footprint" Disposable nappies contain plastics which is harmful for the environment, plus it releases carbon emissions.

We are made of carbon, i know that. Pretty much everything organic. And with nano technology, it will be possible to make a diamond out of a grilled cheese sandwich.

yes and no

carbon is in a lot of stuff, diamonds come from carbon being heated and compressed at great temperature and pressure

if you crushed a spoon, made of metal, you would not get a diamond

all organic lifeforms are based of carbon.

coal is the carbon that diamonds are made from, but it needs to be under tremendous pressure for thousands of years under ground then to get a diamond.

Um. No. Tin is not made up of carbon. Neither is Aluminum. Neither is gold. Neither is oxygen. Neither is Neon.

Should I go on?
