It would be a big deal because it has never happened in the past. With that being said, more power to the first female that comes along with the talent to make it.

C'mon Smiles! That answer is ridiculous! That fact that there are no women in MLB is NOT sexist. They ARE allowed to play, they JUST AREN'T GOOD ENOUGH! Don't you think if a woman came along that could throw 95 mph fastballs, or could hit a MLB fastball 400 feet consistently that she would be given a chance to play? Of course she would! Michelle Wie has been given many chances to play against men in golf, and she consistently get's her butt kicked. The difference is that baseball is a team sport, and noone is going to give a woman a chance to play unless the KNOW that they are going to be able to compete.
Smiles, you don't JOIN the MLB. You need to be good enough to sign a contract. It's not some kind of club that anyone can join, otherwise, all of us guys that love baseball would be playing. We can't, because we just aren't good enough. There are 30 teams in MLB, each with 40 MEN on their rosters (and only 25 of those are in the major leagues!) so for a woman (or a man) to play in the big leagues they need to theoretically be one of the 750 best players in the world. As soon as a woman gets to that level, she'll play in the bigs. Hey, maybe it will be you.

I'd be all for seeing it, if she deserved to be there. There are so many players in baseball's younger levels (A, AA, etc) who think they're just steps away from making the big club, but the reality is that very few players make it. Being a female, typically (and I really don't like to stereotype but...) the strength just isn't there to compete at a MLB level.
As a batter, a player needs incredible talent to see the ball, hit it with enough power to at least clear the infield, and speed / instincts to run the bases.
In the field, a player needs the ability to stop a ball coming at them at 100+ mph (batted balls often travel that fast to infielders) as well as a strong enough arm to throw out players. Outfielders need to have a natural ability to track where a fly ball will land almost as soon as it leaves the bat.
Pitchers need to be able to throw the ball hard, with movement, accurately and be consistent with it.
Basically, It could happen, but it's not very likely.

There is no rule, but girls are underrated compared to guys in baseball. Guys have power, but girls have speed. (Expect Ichiro, Crawford, Jeter, etc. can beat out the girls). I would be amazed if a girl played in the MLB because it's never happened before. Girls are more into softball than baseball. Either way, it's very competitive. Look at some girl softball players. They are one of the best players in the world. (Ex.Taryne Mowatt, University of Arizona. SHE WON AN ESPY!) Girls want to be top in softball, then be best in baseball because softball is the first step. It's a sport for girls. Then baseball is more of a sport for boys, so that's their 2nd goal. If they happen to make it, things are going to be a lot different. The guys would want to be better than her because guys don't want to say, "I'm worse than a girl in baseball." There will be a lot of controversy.
In general, if a girl played in the MLB, I would be surprised, but also confused at how they got there.

i don't know why girls havent played in mlb yet. nut i know it would be a big deal when the first girl does play because it has never happended before. but a girl could probably play every position just as good as a guy could if they were really good, expect pitching, becasue most girls just don't have the upper arm strenght that guys do, and that is why softball is pitched underhand

well if a girl made it to a MLB team it would be a huge deal. It would be a day to remember for women everywhere. When that happens i bet more women would be motvated and confident so they too would join the MLB

If there is any female that can win a spot on a boys high school team, then a men's college team, then get drafted and work her way through the minors then she deserves a shot.
Manon Rheaume played juniors men's hockey and was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning.
You just have to want it bad enough.

I heard of a female pitcher a few years ago in the minor league. Apparently she didn't do well because I've never heard of her since. I'm a female, but even I wouldn't want a female to play if she can't be competitive. I don't want her to be just a publicity act. I just don't think it's realistic for a girl to play in the majors. All aspects of the game will be compared to male players. Females can't run fast enough (to the plate or the field), hit hard enough, throw fast enough or or far enough. I'm all for Title IX, but they should be competitive.
