very simple and first of all so many of your previous answers are even confusing me as a tech., IF your laptop did not come with a integradted wireless network card, then you have 2 other options, but a pcmcia 10/100 wireless ethernet card, that simply plugs into the PCMCIA slot or even easier you can get a usb netwrk adapter, very simple and inexpensive, simply plugs into a normal 2.0 usb port and your lap top is now ready for wireless, please ignore others talking about built in wireless router, a router is what your lap top gets the wireless signal from. so if you plan on traveling to areas that are only hardwired for internet?ethernet, you will need a router, such a linskys wirless G 54mbps or belkin or other brands, the routher will be a small box with a antenna it will plug ino a normal electruicala outlet for power and then u plug the hard wired internet into the routher instead of your computer , use trhe cdrom to configure the router and you are ready , any where in the range of the router u have easily accesible internet acess, in many areas such as hotels, cofee shops, airports etc. they offer free wireless high speen intent in this case ensure ur laptoo wireless card is enabled and when a wireless network is in range it will display one or more wireless networs are in range of you ciomputer choose the one you wish to connect to and click connect onced u do this onced it is set and remembered as a prefereed network and will autmatically connect when in range. Hope this answers Your question and good luck enjoy the benefits of wireless....

You question is sufficiently vague that a simple answer is insufficient.

If your laptop is currently able to access wireless networks, and you intend to use wireless networks (the so called free wi-fi services - all of which conform to the 802.11 a, b, and g standard), you are already able to perform. If your laptop does not have a built in wireless ability, and you wish to access these wireless networks, you should procure a pcmcia wireless adapter and configure it.

If you want to avail yourself to a cellular wireless network (ATT, Sprint, and Verizon all offer these), you need a specifically designed pcmcia card for your notebook that is unique to the specific carrier. In this case, once you decide upon a carrier, you need to purchase their card. A subscription is usually for a 12 month minimum.

Most if not all new laptops come equipped with a wireless internet router. Now all you need is to be in areas with free wireless ( many airports, hotels, coffee shops and bookstores) and you're set to go!

if your model doesn't have a wireless router you'll need to go to a technology store and have one equipped which can get expensive.

Get a PCMIA wireless ethernet card. Or if you want to pay for it go to a cell company and get there wireless broadband service. I have not tested that but I have seen it in action It's not bad.

Simplest way is a USB adapter. It plugs right in to your usb port, the installation cd will walk you through the set up.
Netgear, Linksys are two of the best rated. $50 or less is all you need to spend.
