A colleague of mine got fired for drinking on the job recently and it was his 2nd time getting fired from this company for that very reason. Even though he did it to himself, it was heartbreaking to see him waiting for the cab after he got canned. He hunched down behind a truck in the parking lot as if he wanted to make himself as small as possible and I wondered what kind of thoughts were going through his mind at the time... and I wondered if he felt trapped by alcohol.

Considering that most of what I've learned in college states that if an individual consumes more than 4 servings an alcohol a week they are deemed an alcoholic. Most people I know will have that within one sitting let alone a full week. Perhaps the *alcoholic standards are too low, but as long as it is not effecting work or personal lives I don't think its that big of a deal.

One out of 12, I'd say about one out of 5. But maybe thats just the people I hang with. And folks sure that they are actually drinking and not just hung over.

Drinkng and drugs have hurt the ones who don't for time since anyone can remember. It is sad and yet it is a part of this roller coaster ride. Drinking and drugs let their users stay calliced to their hurting ways.
We can only try to offer them Forgive Affirmed Spirit, assertive feelings, in exchange for their abuses and hope they wake up for all of our sakes and then pray the following prayer when that fails. I don't blame them, for something or someone led them down that path. But if it comes down to my survival or the survival of another non user loved one, I accept whatever conflict, even nasty ones because I have no control over what needs to happen, to change their lives. But believe me, I wish for that change...ALL THE TIME. Please join me in this endeavor!
May the Force of Caring cause whatever conflict is necessary for those users of alchohol and drugs that make them calliced in their ways and abusers of humanity, to cause them to become Forgive Affirmed Spirits, caring more about other people's feelings and survival!

False.
Drinking on the job is not a drinking problem. It is a problem of irresponsibility.
