I think Primaries should be banned, that way it would weaken political parties strangle hold on politics. If votes are split between several candidates from the same party it could make way for some independents

Would you rather have your leaders chosen by 10% of the people. If the Dem vote is split between 20 candidates, the Green Party commie might win the White House. Would you want Cynthia McKinney to be your president? On the other side if the conservative vote is split, Rush Limbaugh might win the election as a write in. Would you want him. The primaries serve a purpose. We can weed out people like Edwards and McCain who, though they have a following, don't represent the views of most of the people in this country.

Limiting choice is the whole point of the primaries. They are a tool the parties came up with to keep from having multiple candidates split their vote.

Keep in mind, if a candidate wants to give you more choice he/she can always run as an independent.

The problem with that logic is. When the votes get split between several candidates and no one as at least 50% than congress gets to decide who the next pres is. God help us

Primaries protect the parties and their major candidates. They don't like when a constitutionalist like Ron Paul makes them look bad. The sooner they can sweep these "minor" candidates under the rug, the sooner they can carry on with business as usual.

I think the primaries need to be held nationally, or all on the same day, the current system is not working well
