I got to my first class 30 minutes early. There were just a few people in there so I sat down. Then the teacher (I didn't realize he was a teacher) started berating me and the guy who walked in with me for being so late. Then he continued to lecture the class. After a little while I realized, that I was in the wrong class. I got up to leave and the teacher said, "Are you going to drop the class just because I yelled at you?" I said, "No, I'm in the wrong class. Besides mine doesn't start until 9." He said, "Oh. Kudos for being early."
Later that day I was walking along the sidewalk to my next class (reading the campus map) and I tripped over a girl who was tying her shoe. She and I started talking and became great friends by the end of the year and lived together every year after that!
Useful information- Find out where your classes are before the first day. Look up your teachers online. Don't be afraid to talk to strangers. Try to actually do the assigned reading for class. Watch for cops if you are going to drink underage (the fines are outrageous!). Join organizations.

I know I wouldn't be much help. I'm in the Distant Learning program (online classes) at my college. But I did go to the school because I had to meet my professors. When I step on the campus it was scary because I knew that this was a change for me. Everything is different. Different people, teachers, big school, etc.

Definitely keep your door open to meet everyone on your floor. Be considerate to your roommate when arranging the room. Introduce yourself to everyone, even if you're shy. and HAVE FUN. college is great once you get past the initial shock of leaving home!

be friendly and relax... it's not that bad, really... just try to enjoy every moment of it... try to meet new friends... it will make the experience more memorable...
