i know, we take people for granted every day and when they are gone you realise what you were doing and it affects you a lot. i have a few regrets involving things like this, things i wish i done before i lost family members and people i love. life is very short and everyone should live like they are going to die tomorrow, tell the people you love how much you really love them because one day it will be too late. im only 18 and can already see ive gone wrong in a lot of things, but i intend on living by these sayings in the future.

We have so many sayings about this--"Absence makes the heart grow fonder", "You don't miss the water until your well runs dry", etc. It seems to be a natural human tendency to accept people and things just as a usual part of the environment until they are gone, and then you miss the special little things about them. That smile, those eyes, the laugh...whatever.

When a person is a regular part of your life, it is easier for you to point out their flaws because they are right in front of you. When they are all of a sudden gone, you start to realize their good qualities. For some, these good qualities aren't good enough or in enough quantity to out weigh the bad ones. But in your case, I think you're realizing that the good qualities actually out weigh the bad ones. Also, when you really care about someone and they aren't around any more, you begin to down play down their bad traits because subconsciously, you want them back. You brain is secretly trying to convince you that you need that person...your brain is usually right!

Because you're in that comfort zone when threyre about, you can get on so well. You can spend so much time together but losing them you dont realise how much of an impact they made on your life and thats why that saying comes about. You always thought they'd be there and when theyre not its hard to deal with.

Because familiarity breeds contempt? I think that when people are near, there is so much information to process
so much minutia, that it is only after they are gone that the
little useless bits fall away and we are able to concentrate
on what was important and what was strength.

you never appreciate them enough while you have them, you're that use t them been there and doing things for you etc that it just becomes part of daily life having them there.
you dont mention who it is, and in what sense they've gone whether they've died or just gone away.
if you want to chat mail me, i no what your going thru in many ways, my mum died when i was 15 and i've just moved to another contry away from everyone i know, and recently split with me boyfriend who i deeply loved.
hope your okay.

Because missing is a feeling. You have to "feel" you miss someone which doesn't happen when they are with you in the same room!!!!!!
