My husband and i decided we needed to finish painting our house before the baby came (or it would never get finished). We have recruited our family and friends to come over and paint for the weekend to finish the project. I was in the house when we did the baby's room and our den.........but there was good ventilation and it was only the one room at a time. With the whole house being done at once it is going to be ALOT of paint. Is it best to just stay at my mom's for the weekend? I have read different answers from pregnancy books and wanted to know if any of you had done this before?

Yes it's better to stay at your mom's. Why risk it?

It would be best to stay out of the house for the weekend. The fumes are not good. I am 21 weeks and hubby painted one room upstairs with tons of ventilation I still had to stay down stairs due to the fumes. With the whole house being done it would be best for you and the baby to take a weekend trip somewhere else. Always better safe then sorry. It will probably still smell like wet paint when you get back but the dangerous fumes should be gone as long as you ventilated the place well over the weekend.

If latex paint is used and it's well ventilated, you should have no problems - especially if it's not humid or rainy so the paint can dry faster. You may want to use some fans to help the paint dry faster. It's probably not a bad idea to stay at your mom's for the weekend though to help get some of those fumes out of the house. If oil paint is being used, then you should probably stay at your mom's for about a week because those fumes are too harsh for you to be around.

A SERIOUS ANSWER: Do not withhold sex to extort things from your husband, unless you do not want a husband or do not want sex. From your additional details, it appears you are wise to this marriage destroying tactic. Paint costs money. If you just bought a house, you might be a little tapped out. However, now is an ideal time to paint if you have not moved all your furniture in. Use that angle because it is a good one. Figure out how many gallons of paint you will need by computing total wall surface area. When you have the $ figure, present it to your husband and also present some non-essential luxury to cut back on (like the bedroom set) or something to sell to make up for or almost make up for the paint cost. Your husband will be impressed. You will get the walls painted and have even better and more frequent sex.

First let me say Congratulations Sounds to me like you answered your own question by referring back to when you painted the baby's room and the den " good ventilation" If you are even questioning the thought of staying listen to your gut and go to your mom's This way at know time in the future will you have to question your decision Take care DeDe

When we wanted to paint out kitchen a month ago, we asked the "paint person" who worked at the hardware store and he said it should be fine for me as long as it was well ventilated and if I started to feel dizzy to get out of the room. My fiance never did let me do anything to help, actually I still had to pretty much stay out of the room. But I don't think it would have hurt me.

If you're using latex paint, you're fine. Oil-based is a little stronger smelling, so it's not pleasant. We don't use lead-based paint anymore! The paint scare is from a long time ago. If you're scraping or sanding a house that contains lead paint-worry. Unless you're drinking the paint, you're fine. I've asked the same thing. I am now pregnant with my third.

Stay at your mom`s! Better to be on the safe side even though it probably won`t hurt the child.
Good luck with your baby!

I would but not so much from paint fumes, but from the hustle and bustle. You don't need all the mess and commotion.
Go to your mom's and relax.
congrats.
