9 crucial tips

1.Tip from Tae Kwon Do :
The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do!

2. Learned this from a tourist guide in New Orleans:
If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM,Toss it away from you.... chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. (DON'T DO THIS!)
The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR , LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.

a. If someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF, repeat: DO NOT DRIVE OFF! Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:
A.) Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat .
B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door . Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.
C.) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone
in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back
into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially true at NIGHT!)

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control,
ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN, Preferably in a zig -zag pattern!

8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic:
STOP ! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked 'for help'
into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted
his next victim.

9. Another Safety Point:
Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her 'Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.'
The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, 'We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.'
He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear baby's cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night.

If you are talking about personal physical safety then I will give you some advise.Dont walk alone at night without a friend or two.If you dont have a car and have to walk then keep your keys in your hands.Makes a good weapon for the attackers eyes.Dont be affraid to use them. You are protecting yourself. If you have mace or pepper spray keep it readily accessible in your purse. If you are attacked by someone when you are alone there are a few things you can do.Use the keys and gouge the attackers eyes or poke yor thumbs in their eyes.A good stomp on your attackers foot and an elbow to the ribs works well if they attack from the back.If they get you in a bear hug from the rear or the front just relax yourself and drop to the ground like you are sitting down. When you are free start running and yell"help" as loud as you can .Sometimes that will scare the attacker away just by yelling.Biting also works.Bite their hand or arm or whatever you can bite.Kick them in their private part and that will drop them to the ground so you can run.Always be aware of your surroundings when you are in crowded areas. When you are at a party or other places where there are a lot of people then dont walk thru the middle of the crowd.Walk along the walls of the room you are in and keep an eye on people you dont know..Also take some self defense classes.I have taught them before and they really work from the feed back I received from my students.Hope this helps.

Hold your purse so its under your arm and protected by your forearm. Carry a personal alarm. If its legal in your area to carry a spray like "Mace", do, but make sure it is legal to do so. Try not to be out after dark alone--go out with friends. Carry a cell phone and know how to get emergency help immediately, they don't all respond to 9-11 calls. If you have to, walk down the middle of a street (without traffic on it, of course!!!) rather than down a sidewalk. Tell people you are going out. Maybe intruder alarms at home would help too. It is a total shame that people need to be so concerned about personal safety but it is better to be safe than sorry.

Don't walk around by yourself at night, if you can help it. I'm appalled at the number of my college-age girl friends who make Wal-Mart trips, alone, at 2 am, just because they feel like it.

Always be watchful. If you go jogging or walking by yourself, don't have your mp3 player up so loud that you can't hear what's going on around you. Since that's hard, always look around to make sure you aren't being followed.

Choose your company carefully. Most rapes/assaults on women are by men they already know and/or trust.

Dress conservatively out in public, especially in unfamiliar areas. You don't want to be "asking for it." (I know that doesn't give men a right to do anything, but you might as well not make yourself a target.)

Keep your purse close to your body and in your line of sight at all times.

Carrying around a small can of pepper spray never hurts.

Safety in numbers.

Make sure someone trustworthy knows where you are.

Always have your cell phone handy. Sleep with it near your bed so if something happens at your home, you can call 911 immediately.

If your phone service or car dealership offers it, sign up for roadside assistance. That way you aren't stranded on the side of the highway, and you won't be a possible target for "helpers".

Lock your doors, even in broad daylight.

LOOK around you.

Take a Self Defense Course-- not even Karate or Judo or Kuing Fu-- but just a GOOD basic Women's Self Defense Course. It structures your awareness-thinking and makes you much more confident AND sometimes the people who are about to bully you or worse, can sense it and will back off.

Amazing what even a 90 pound woman can do to mess up her attacker.

When you are working alone in a building or a store -- LOCK the door-- one woman was killed becuz her employer insisted the BACK door stay unlocked, even though the woman was working alone.

When you are working in a big office and you need to use the restroom -- does it lock? make sure it's empty before you go in to use it-- do you really want to flush? the noise carries-- someone can pinpoint your location.

ALWAYS check around you -- no need to be paranoid, but look around you.

Got the best locks on your home door AND windows? Use a RELIABLE Locksmith (not a fly by night-- could be a criminal casing you and your home for its weak points).....

Carry a cell phone--

If someone is following your car too closely -- hit the horn -- S.O.S -- three short blasts, pause, three long blasts, pause, three short blasts.

Keep your car LOCKED when you are not in it-- even if it is parked in your driveway.

Don't be afraid to yell "WHO ARE YOU? WHAT ARE YOU DOING-- ARE YOU TRYING TO ROB ME??!" in public.

Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house. It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break in your house, odds are the burglar or rapist won't stick around. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there.

Never leave your drink unattended in an environment where someone could slip a drug into it. If you must leave it unattended, get a new drink when you return and discard the old one.

Hi, in regards to a womans personal safety the first most important thing is to be aware of your environment (Laur, 1999) make sure you are aware of who is around and where you are and enter and exit areas. keeping pepper spray on you such as in your purse or backpack and ensure it is easily accessable. Never go into a dark area or garage without someone with you. Always check the front and back seat of your car prior to entering it. Make sure your car keys are in hand prior to leaving a building searching for keys in a parking lot puts you more at risk for dangerous situations. When in doubt go with your gut instint and leave the situation or area before something happens. Keep your cell phone in reach as well in case you need to call for help. Taking a self defense class is a good idea for any woman you never know when you will need it and it helps increase self esteem.

AWARENESS we have to be aware of our surroundings at all times. Times have changed. Use your head. For example: don't walk into a dark alley by yourself or at all. Carry mase. If in trouble yell out Fire!!!!!! Most people don't necessarily come for HELP but I read that more will come if you yell fire. Don't park in dark places try to find a well lit area. But just be aware of your surroundings. YOU ARE WORTH IT!!!!!!!!! Self defense classes are often offered at the local YMCA . The idea is not to be scared, we have rights as human beings but we are also responsible for ourselves.

Go in pairs, don't fear the Reaper.

Fight your *** off until you can't fight anymore! Don't leave your partner hanging. Go together if necessary.

Kids get through that, you can too. Life is better without fear.
