Iraq invaded Kuwait and looted the country.

Iraq and Kuwait were once part of the same country, Under the Ottoman Empire. After WWI, the British cut the area up into several pieces. They cut away Kuwait and made it a separate nation.

Saddam used that as an excuse to invade. It was much the same way Hitler "annexed" Austria.

Sadly, the UN chose to leave Saddam in power. Since the first Gulf War was not finished, it set the stage for the current crisis in Iraq.

Perhaps tejaxlibre should actually learn history before trying to answer questions incorrectly.

The GULF WAR was in 1991 and was the direct result of Iraq and Saddam Hussein invading and illegally annexing the country of Kuwait. The UN ordered Iraq to leave and when they did not do so, a coalition force made up mostly of US troops destroyed his armies and proved the devastating affects of being on the wrong side of a US military strike.

You mean the first one (1991) or the second one (2003-)?

For the first Gulf War, Iraq had invaded Kuwait, and the US (along with a coalition of dozens of countries) led an invasion to push the Iraqi army back to the pre-war borders.

There was a controversial decision that the first President Bush made: The Generals told him that they could march into Baghdad if he wanted to, and Bush said no.

10 years later, Bush Jr. said yes.
