My husband and I are buying 46 acres, we will be building our dream home. What are some features you have thought of in your life that your dream home would have? To all the ladies, what would be a great feature to make our lives easier, what about the "ahhh" factor? Men, what kind of features would my husband love?

Thanks for the answers!

I could pick anything for our dream home, paint and furnish the whole thing Pepto-Bismal pink but as long as my husband had a huge shop for his toys, he would be happy.

For me, I don't think I could narrow it down to one thing. If I had to pick ONE thing, it would be a great room for entertaining. A combination kitchen, dining, living area, open floor plan.

A nice master bedroom with a jetted tub for two, a steam shower and separate walk-in closets.

A great feature to make your lives easier? Low maintenance floors, especially in your higher traffic areas. Something you can damp mop in about 5 minutes and have it look like you are a meticulous housekeeper.

"ahhh" factor depends on personal taste. I know some people are crazy about marble, but I find it cold and harsh. "ahhh" for me is lots and lots of natural sunlight, big windows, a sunroom with oversized furniture, perfect for curling up with a good book.

Have worked on a few luxury home projects so maybe some of these would work for you: Underfloor heating, mood lighting, home entertainment server, this allows you to keep all your music and films in one place, but watch and listen anywhere in the house (this can also be wired to the mood lighting for effect). Id recommend a large dish washer fitted NEXT TO the sink, so many people miss design kitchens. Pantry for fridge, freezer and washing machine, this will keep noise out of the kitchen, leaving it free of background and clutter, id recommend designing it so that the door through is on the same side as the cooker so that the extractor hood ventilation can run through the pantry and not the kitchen, this also means the fan for the extractor hook can be fitted away from the kitchen, again reducing noise. I could go on for a while so if you would like more advise then drop me a line, i accept emails... if not then please try to have running water somewhere in your 46 aches, either as a pond or water feature, like can be stressful and the sound of running water in many studies had been proven to be extremely therapeutic. Good luck and hope all goes well.

I love plants.. so I would like a huge sun room/solarium type room for them that I could also sit in and read and relax (big reader). I also LOVE to cook. So I would spend gobs of money on the kitchen. I would like to have 2 ovens for baking and plenty of room for storage and a huge pantry for storing my baking goods and all of my speciallty cake pans. I thought I had plenty of storage until I really got into baking and bought all these cake pans now I just don't have any place to put them! I also love large bathrooms and would probably spend extra in there. I love my huge garden tub that I have.

My hubby would love to have a bigger office, he works out of the home.

I know its cliche but a jacuzzi--there is no better way to unwind! If you have a non-chlorine system (on my land all my water is spring fed!) its healthful as well as relaxing. Also, a sauna--neednt be very big--you can build one for pretty cheap.

The health benefits of both devices are amazing!

sauna room, exercise room, island kitchen that has the type of dishwasher that motorhomes have but bigger, cooler for drinks only, indoor grill and an outdoor grill, oversize walk-around porch with paddle fans..........now the guys....a work shop for cars or a wood shop so he can make his honey all the wood things she needs to decorate the new house....maybe add to it someday in future or make the addition so you can put a motorhome inside, on the outside put cameras on every corner to catch every view of the surrounding areas including a watch dog at the entrance to the property so you know you have company coming or something, plus be able to see it online...so if you go on vacation you can get online and watch your property any where you want

Gotta have a media/hosting room where you can hang out and watch games and a wet bar for drinks and snacks. Think of it as a buffer zone from the daily grinds of life.

A killer family room, with all the perks! Pool would be nice and a big kitchen, I would really love a bathtub for two for the master BR.

I would like a sun room and he would like a huge garage. We have a 1760 sq ft garage at this house and it is a minimum for us.

Security.

I would want to know that I will always be able to easily afford the insurance, taxes, utilities and upkeep along with any payments.
