My husband and I are buying 46 acres, we will be building our dream home. What are some features you have thought of in your life that your dream home would have? To all the ladies, what would be a great feature to make our lives easier, what about the "ahhh" factor? Men, what kind of features would my husband love?

Thanks for the answers!

To AM - don't worry about the budget, its a DREAM home...haha. I know some features that I would love to have, but I am sure there are others that I haven't ever thought of. No maid needed, but visitors welcome :) I live in Tennessee

A hot tub in the masterbedroom, or on a deck right outside the masterbedroom (if it's on the second story). A large kitchen with all the most modern equipment, with track lighting and marble countertops. An out door kitchen, with a large dining area, and a pool. Wonderful landscaping, at least around the house, I don't know if you could do the full 46 acres. A koi pond, with a little bridge going over it.

Have worked on a few luxury home projects so maybe some of these would work for you: Underfloor heating, mood lighting, home entertainment server, this allows you to keep all your music and films in one place, but watch and listen anywhere in the house (this can also be wired to the mood lighting for effect).

Id recommend a large dish washer fitted NEXT TO the sink, so many people miss design kitchens. Pantry for fridge, freezer and washing machine, this will keep noise out of the kitchen, leaving it free of background and clutter, id recommend designing it so that the door through is on the same side as the cooker so that the extractor hood ventilation can run through the pantry and not the kitchen, this also means the fan for the extractor hook can be fitted away from the kitchen, again reducing noise.

I could go on for a while so if you would like more advise then drop me a line, i accept emails... if not then please try to have running water somewhere in your 46 aches, either as a pond or water feature, like can be stressful and the sound of running water in many studies had been proven to be extremely therapeutic. Good luck and hope all goes well.

A dream home, 46 acres, oh boy, I hesitate to ask the budget. I would like to have a very accessible kitchen, not too big but easy to get at everything, maybe opening out to a living area, so mom isn't alone in the kitchen slaving away. Bedrooms with adequate closet space, windows that help the room breathe. A fireplace. A big porch facing the sunset, letting the worries and day melt away. Bathrooms that have closet space-linens, and such. A whirpool tub to fit 2. A bed that is comfortable and cozy. Oh the list is endless...Where are you moving too? You need a maid? LOL

We are building our dream house right now! We hope to move in in about 4 weeks. A few things we did were:
We designed the master suite to have the laundry room accessible from the master closets.
We have a huge shower with heads and body sprays on each end and a rain head in the center.
The kitchen, living, and dining area are all open and are perfect for entertaining.
The covered porch takes full advantage of the hillside views!

We are so excited!

The waterfall along the east wall of the atrium when you first walk in the front door.

The jacuzzi out on the back deck.

The informal "great room" downstairs which can be a wonderful children's play area at first, and eventually an "entertainment oasis", containing a large screen TV, comfy oversized leather couches, a refrigerator, a pool table, etc.

A kitchen with an island and a pot rack overhead, and dual refrigerator/freezer units concealed in the cabinetry.

The bathtub in the master en-suite bath, large enough to accommodate two people.

The shower with dual shower heads at each end.

I would add these things to my home if I could. A faucet over the stove so I could fill pots without lifting them back and forth from the sink. Lots of draws in the cabinet ts for storage. Jacuzzi tub for two. Two sinks in the en suite. Heated towel rack (it gets cold where I'm from). An awesome pool to relax in and maybe a hot tub. A built in BBQ kitchen outside. A game room for a pool table or poker table (whatever your into). Well stocked bar. Pull out pantry. If your in a cold climate, heated floors. Lots of big windows. An office or computer area. A large garden with lots of flowers. A water fountain for the garden. Lots of cool looking but comfortable furniture.

First things first, what can you afford?

And remember you will have to do all the cleaning.

I would wants lots of windows, high ceilings, large closets in each bdrm, closets in the baths and hallways, a large laundry room, super large kitchen with attached family room, possible sun room, I would want the main living area and, 2 master bdrm suites downstairs with whirlpool tubs, and 2-3 brms up stairs, of course a 3-4 car garage, and most of all------heated pool, and hot-tub,possibly a sauna and gym, and a large outside storage shed for the maintaince equipment. I'm not into fancy name brands, but I would like stainless in the kitchen....phone and cable jacks in every room., and an outside cooking area by a large patio, near the pool.

2 laundry rooms. One close to the children's bedrooms. One close to the master suite. Dryers mounted on top of pull out drawers. This gets the dryer more at 'eye' level and provides extra storage space. Also tile floors with drains in the center. Ever have a hose break and not know it?

Closets lining both sides of the hallway closest to the children's rooms.

Library separate from home office.

A sun-room/breakfast nook facing east, so it is usable (gotta be from the south to appreciate this lol) Deck off this room.

Screened porch with ceiling fans.

Automatic lights for closets/pantry areas.

Sink Faucet that is tall enough to fill large pots.

Brick exterior, with vinyl siding under overhangs and at window frames. Stamped concrete porches. This is to eliminate as much maintenance as possible (no wood to replace/paint)

Most of all enjoy your new 'farm'. :)
hope this helps.

I would definately have to get a house with a yard that is perfect for a Robotic Lawn Mower. So the mower could go out and come back to the charging station without any problems. Then all the neighbors would be impressed that my grass is always 2 inches high and I would never be out there with a lawn mower. Plus the yard would look amazing!

I can tell you this and I'm sure all men would agree with me. Just like women, a man wants his own PRIVATE bathroom. One that is away from all the commotion where you can't be interrupted. Make sure you have a place to put magazines and other reading material. You also need to consider sound proofing hahahhaa.

This definately would be part of my dream house
