This really drives me nuts!!! What could it be that when I use a calling card to call from the US a cellphone in Europe, it sounds like it's ringing to me but the actual cell never rings!! Landline is fine!! Get through on the first shot! Cannot get through with the cell. Any idea??

Contact the company that you bought the calling card from. They may not be on good terms with the company your friend deals with.

Some companies' calling cards will not contact certain networks. This can be as simple as they don't want to give the money to them (i.e.: they think they are charging too much), to convoluted and archane reasoning beyond the ken of mere mortals.

Landlines on the otherhand are not doing network to network connections, they are following linkages long established in treaties, agreements and law, THEN entering a cell network once it is in the country in question...so there is only one network to worry about.

I think you have to have a special hook up on your phone, that is, your phone has to be set to call overseas. Is it an overseas phone? Not all phones call overseas. If your phone is an overseas phone and you are having problems, then the first thing to do is to complain to your carrier. As overseas phones are more money, you should definetly bring your phone to the store that supplies the carrier and find out what is wrong. It is the carrier's responsibility to get your phone working. However, the problem may be at the other end, you never know. Not being a total pro on phones, find out if the phone at the other end has to have the capacity to receive overseas calls. But really, it's so much cheaper to call on a land line. They still are good for somethings.

You should call the company, that's the best thing to do- because it's their fault it's not working properly, and they should be fixing it.

By the way, we have the same face!
