The solution to the problem with people abusing too many IDs would be a requirement to pay a monthly subscription fee for posting limited number of messages. Only one ID per credit card would be allowed.
A pricing scheme similar to monthly cell phone plans could be introduced (the number of messages posted per month would be equivalent to minutes of talk time). If a person exceeds the monthly limit, additional messages would be charged at higher rate.

Would you be willing to pay for this service and how much?

Please provide answer in the following format: $ per month / number of posts allowed ( for example: $5 / 300 posts)

How much should additional posts (beyond limit) cost?

Why would you pay for it?

To particpate in a debate while filtering out those who abused the previous discussion boards.

Of course anybody would be able to read discussions, the posting would be limited to those willing to pay for it.

Why would anyone want to pay for that?

I sure do miss the discusion groups, but I'm not sure that too many ID's was the real problem, so I'm not sure that your idea for payment and limited messages is the solution.

If the problem is really too many ID's, why not just limit people to one? The old system, as I recall, allowed each member up to six screen names, and even allowed them to interact with each other.

I could block old Agame123 any time I got tired about reading about ET, the shameless dog that makes one detest, but there's nothing about Y!A that allows the same level of interaction that the old boards did.

It's not going to be worth $40 a month to this working dad anytime soon, though.

A few people might pay for it. I know I wouldn't.
