what does it mean when she starts scartching the ground. I just got her from a friend and don't know much. but she scratches the carpet with the her feet and move in circular motions.

You need to put her in water.Red eard sliders are not land turtles but water turtles.Buy a book and learn more.

Carpet? You have carpet in your water turtle's tank?
Some people think you can raise Red-ears in a dry tank safely. This is not true.
Please provide proper housing before your turtle becomes stressed and ill.

turtles are diggers, they will dig in dirt or the mud at the bottom of a lake, river or pond. it does not matter if the turtle is a male or female, all will dig. scratching the carpet to them is like dirt.
