I remember reading books like "Indian in the cubbord", "The Lion the witch and the wardrobe" All these classics are now movies, I wonder what books will be mandatory for our children...?

It is not required or recommended in our school system in any grade or class. If it was the school would be responsible for buying it if it was required. If it were recommended but not required then it would be up to each child's parents to purchase it. If most Americans had read this book before the election. We would not have a President named Obama and we wouldn't be in debt over our heads either like we are today. I did read the book and I wouldn't recommend it for my children.

"The Outsiders" by S. E. Hinton, turned into a movie by Francis Ford Coppola in 1983. My favorite poem came out of this book/movie, it is "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost.

One of my daughter's mandatory books so far has been about a boy's perspective of the civil war, but I honestly don't remember the name of it. I'd have to ask her.

The Hobbit, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Crucible, The Scarlet Letter. Ugh...The Hobbit was the most painful.

"Of Mice and Men" was one I distinctly remember being forced to read. Great book, by the way. I really got into it after only a couple of chapters.
