I consider myself very proud to be an American. but I'm not currently very proud of America. Americans think that smashing hummers and driving priuses will save the environment. Yet they the big "learjet, limousine" liberals like Al Gore parade around in a HUGE mansion while telling us too buy smaller houses. He is one of the worlds biggest hypocrites. If all the rich people taht own a learjet or a Gulf-stream spent less time hopping to Paris for a cup of coffee every Saturday and instead maybe even did something as ridiculous as exercise, that might help the world. What happened to the country that everyone looked to as the symbol of prosperity democracy and hope. The american people really need to clean up their act.

I am damned proud to be an American. There was a time when famous people were, indeed, patriots just like Ray Charles. They used to be thankful for the freedom they have that so many gave so much to achieve and secure for them that they took great pains to express how glad they were to be nieces and nephews of Uncle Sam.
Now, it seems, Hollywood, TV and the recording industry are nothing but US bashing, socialist leaning, ungrateful snobs. They are constantly preaching to us how we should live while they place no such limitation on their own lifestyles.
Believe me, it was not always this way.

Yes, I'm proud to be an American. It's not a superiority pride though...it's more of just pride from having the freedom and stability that I have from being a native of this country.

Absolutely!
I thank my forefathers for the battles they fought to create and protect my freedoms!
However, I believe we need to continue this fight and kick the elites out of Washington. We need true Americans in Washington who will serve the people and not their political interests.

Definitely! But I can imagine how we look with our seriously skewed negative media and political bickering.
Maybe the fairness doctrine for the media shouldn't be about balancing politics but instead balancing good news and bad news.

I don't really understand having pride for a nationality I was born into. I've neither accomplished or earned anything to become America - why should I be proud?
And right now, with America's global image going down the toilet, pride seems foolish.
