personally yes, i do think that grown men in full makeup are scary.
kids, though, dont see these things thru jaded eyes. they see a happy person, with silly makeup doing goody things trying to make them laugh.

Yes I remember I worked at a theatre which was a scary place when only three of you are working at night and I had to go and get the milk so we could have a cuppa.
I had to go to the green room to which was in complete darkness so I had a torch under my arm and there was a fire door so I had to drag a chair over to wedge the door open and as I did that the torch flickered over a prop from a dance concert the night before it was a large clown hanging from the the mirror's it made me jump like hell.
It reminded me so much of the clown from Poltergeist after that I made the other girls go and get the milk.

Yes! I *hate* clowns! They look creepy and I feel like they're hiding something evil under all that smiley face paint. And I've never even seen "It."
Also, I hate wax figures of people, ventriloquist dummies, and human dolls (except Barbie--I just can't muster any fear of her. "Math is hard.").

No, they are hilarious for small kids and people who say "i hate clowns" have been watching too much sitcoms. Its a meme like "hospital food is bad" or "my flight was terrible". You are expected to say those things.
Clowns are usually respected, important members of society. Take Bush for example.

No. But I wonder if there will ever be a word for the "Fear of Computer Avatars"? (Avatarophobia?)
