People played lottery because they were either curious or tempted by the winnings they will get if they won. They think they might won as there is also a chance, even when it is small.

People played lottery might be the influence under their friends, family or relatives as the people around them might be winning quite a lot and they thought they might just be the next lucky chap. =p

They might have no other ways to get money, and thus, try their luck...

I play just for the heck of it. When I buy a lottery ticket, I don't do it thinking I might win. The odds are too great to even think about it.

People play the lottery as there IS a chance that they will win. A SMALL chance, yes, but they could still win. And one thing is for sure. I can garantee that if you don't play you WON'T WIN.

PS: My mom won $10,000 once on a scratch ticket, so she has beaten the odds.
