to pay for poor people's (lazy) healthcare?

We'll all be paying more taxes...to pay for the war! I'd rather be paying it for healthcare.

You sound extremely uneducated. Just because somebody is poor, does not mean they are lazy. Not everybody can afford healthcare, including my elderly parents. The government is not providing adequate healthcare for them, and I'm sure many other people are in their position. My father has always been very hard working, is a veteran of the Air Force, and they are extremely generous and caring people. Get off your high horse and stop pretending to be better than everybody else.

Everyone should just cool there jets for a moment and use your brains. Truly poor people already get free health care in the form of Medicaid. The best approach to this issue is to find out who does not have insurance coverage and why they don't.

It is a fact that many young people simply choose not to purchase health insurance because they don't feel that it is the best use of their hard earned money. Many would prefer to lease a jazzy car than pay for health insurance.

There are self-employed who cannot afford the premiums. If they could be somehow pooled so they could qualify for group rates they would purchase insurance.

There are very wealthy people who don't need it. Do you realize there are exclusive doctors that do not even accept insurance?

After you whittle it all down, you may find that it is not that difficult to find a way to provide insurance coverage for practically everyone without scrapping the entire system. In fact, it could be handled at the state level. Excluding the Federal bureaucracy entirely.

Add in a little tort reform, illegal immigrant control and before you know it, the problem is solved.

I don't think that all people who receive government-funded health care are lazy, but I do think that some of your answers are correct. A lot of Americans would much rather fund their Cadillac Escalade than their families' health care. There needs to be more stringent criteria for families to receive health care... if there were, I wouldn't mind paying a little more in taxes because I would know that my money was doing what it was intended to do.

No, Not ever. Tell them they can work. I am willing to pay for people that have a legitimate reason for not being able to work. IE health, REAL injury, but not the lazy people that cry about not enough jobs, or repetitive stress injury. Please give me a break. Guess what people ? I am legaly blind. I work and am proud to say that I get no help from Social Security or welfair. If I can do it then you all can too.

I currently pay taxes to fund the wealthy. I would much rather pay taxes to help my fellow citizens in obtaining proper healthcare. If I had to pay more to keep this country healthy than yes, I would.

No I don't want to pay more tax dollars!

I'm sick and tired of Washington wasting the money I'm already giving them! Let's make them accountable for what they already have and cut some of the obvious waste!

No, we absolutely should NOT have government run healthcare! I want the freedom to select and pay for my medical services when I want them.

Americans need to stop looking to the government for entitlements and get to work!

Too many Americans complain about either not having healthcare or that healthcare is too expensive. These people either don't have jobs, expect the insurance companies to pay for unnecessary treatments, don't take care of themselves, and/or choose to pay for their Cadillac Escalade instead of their family's healthcare.

Smaller government is a better government!

no I am not willing to pay more taxes at all

that is of course unless it is the fair tax. Yes people the fair tax will be at least 10% higher sales tax, but hey at least the drug dealers and criminals will be paying more of the taxes.

We need to try out the fair tax before universal healthcare. If the fairtax creates enough revenue, like i believe it would, them maybe down the road we could try welfarecare or all around free health care. Not with our current state of funds though

We could have universal health care without raising costs for individuals. The median wage worker in the UK pays one third LESS in taxes than the equivalent American worker pays in taxes and health insurance. Contrary to popular belief, the Uk system works just fine. The difference is that, while the UK rations healthcare based on need, the US rations it based on the ability to fund the treatment.

Furthermore, simply looking at taxation is short-sighted. If we had universal health care (properly implemented) we would have a healthier nation. Healthy nations produce more than sick ones. So when one looks at the bigger economic picture it is evident that universal health care is the better deal. It amazes me that the USA has not yet realized that.
