My grown children have rejected me and I am divorced, end of family. A dear friend said it like this, i am a dog, I married a cat and had 2 cat children, they can't help it that we are so different, I should have never married the cat. That rejection however has really thrown me for a loop. I was Most Outstanding Senior Girl , Most Spirited Junior Girl, First Female 9th grade class President and have been in charge of and involved in huge things, but the rejection of my own 2 when I raised them and didn't know, it put me into emotional trauma and I'm just trying to connect via email AND I WONT ADD MY EMAIL BECAUSE I'VE RECEIVED 2 BAD VIRUSES FROM THIS SITE THANK YOU.

E-mail buddies are good! And, I'm sorry but I do not have a good site specifically for this.

If you have all of this extra time, go out there into this huge and wonderful world and start socializing girl!

There's tons of things to do and, literally, millions of people just waiting to meet you. Now that's FAR OUT!

I've a friend who is a middle school teacher and is totally dedicated to the profession, however, I'm having to introduce her to the world outside the classroom. She's amazed each time we do something new, and this is often now.

Find the Senior Center close to your home and go, once or twice. This is the start of the opening of the world.

Do some volunteer work. There are always persons in need of your help. You're an educator, find a literacy program that needs a volunteer. You will be welcomed with open arms. And those involved with be soooo grateful.

I have spent many years working with the Senior and Retired population in California. If there is one thing I know out of all of my years of experience, it's this: Potential is the worst waste on the face of the earth, and that includes Seniors most of all.

The GREAT SENIORS on this site are a prime example of aging with grace and spunk and using their potential each and every day to enrich their lives and the lives of those around them. Life is a learning process and you've just entered the next stage. Hug life and let it hug you back. Now that's COOL!

Please realize, you are not a bother to your family and grandchildren. You are a source of ongoing wisdom and experience. You are of immeasurable value to your family.

Good Luck in whatever you choose!

First of all, it breaks my heart that you don't want to bother your "busy family and younger ones". My grandmother used to say that to me and I loved spending time with her and hearing her stories. In addition to family time, have you thought about a book club, volunteering, or maybe a senior cruise? Also, you should look up some sites that reflect your interests. You limit yourself by simply defining yourself as a senior. I am sure there is much more...perhaps there is a passion within you just waiting to be tapped :)
Here are some sites I found for seniors. I hope they help.
www.seniorscognnect.org
Senior Net at www.seniornet.com
55-Alive at www.55-alive.com
Eons at www.eons.com
http://www.connectla.org/att/seniorPage.asp
Third Age at www.thirdage.com
P.S. My other grandmother (at 55) hikes 5 miles a day! The Internet is a great tool to connect with people, but meeting people in person is more important.

I think it's wonderful that you are widening your horizons, and trying to met people. It must have taken alot to admit you were lonely on such a forum.I don't believe I could have done that.
I have gone on a game site that has chat. I get to play games , cards and such while chatting with other players, there are certain age groupings of the rooms so you can better find your niche(40's 50's etc.).
Try volunteering at your local hospital, or library. The historical society is a great place to volunteer too.
I get to meet so many people that way. I even go to our Senior Citizen's center, play cards , go on trips.
I understand your fear of viruses I have gotten a few myself off chat lines, but that does happen.
Good luck with all your new adventures.

Have you considered joining Classmates.com? I joined in 2003 & have reconnected with old friends & have also made many new friends my age. They did away with the chat rooms there but you can use their e-mail services & give out your e-mail address when you feel ready to do so.

BTW: I'm over 50 also, retired early from a job at an all male prison, & always enjoy meeting new people on the web & in person. Sometimes, families can disappoint us can't they? I hope you will visit this site often. All the best to you. :)

I find my best friends are my children and my grand children. Although I am not a good cook, I always like to make something for them. They are my real lovers. Before my husband passed away, I had beautiful life with him, my children have their own life w their faml. Since my husband died, I asked my youngest to stay with me; of course it was not easy at first because I used to lived like twin w my husband since the boys grown up; but w deep love in my heart, I really enjoy living w my youngest son and wife.

Every week end we spend time together whatever, every day at dinner we share our stories about the day we passed.
They are expecting their first baby, I am excited thinking about bits n pieces for the baby.
I tell you, we dont feel lonely with children when we dont have husband.

I know you say that you have problem w them; you say you dont want to bother them , I do the opposite.
I know they need help. They are very busy try to develop their career, so they must need help , and I am full with love, which nobody I think can love them more than I can, so I offer it to them. First my daughter in law was scared of me, she felt inferior, but I let her felt that way until 1 day she cried and appologized for the wrong thought abt me; Now she feels so close to me and I am her real mother not just a mother in law anymore.

Open your heart for kindness, dont think that you are a dog and they are cats; instead think that all of you are beautiful flowers with beautiful perfumery smell which can make the world surrounding you can feel nice to be with those beautiful odours.

You are great for being smart and successfull. Me too, I am not stupid always in top 3; get A's in math almost all the time and my sons none the same like me nor like their father. The 3of them are so different.
Mind you my youngest is a talented artist, cant almost do anything abt math but I admire him, he has nothing in common with me or his father.

Sure when the boys start dating girls, there were some headaches, but it all solved with love and understanding......from ME.
I have to start giving. Not easy....but when it is sincere...I tell you ...no boundaries whatsoever.

They come and pour you with care, and you will not be alone and far from being lonely, yet you still have your own privacy.
Have a good try, it's really nice.

I, like you have passed the fifty marker, and so I do know of
a few sites for you to try, and these are free. The first is, 'Just say hi.com' and you just set up a profile and you don't have to wait for someone to contact you. You can search and send e-mails to those you view on your searches. Another
one is 'Connecting Singles'.com, and there is a wide variety on this one.
I also was on Senior-Singles for a short time(this one is
NOT free) and there were a few CONS, that contacted me,
so be cautious when e-mailing anyone back and forth. Don't give out your personal e-mail address, till you really
feel comfortable in doing so!!!! There are those out there, unfortunately, that think, just because your over 50,
your senses have dwindled to mush...Ha! Good luck.

I can feel for you, I am in the same boat, but with out email its very difficult, I do understand about virus, Maybe the church sites on the web can help, or even a seniors group in your area where you can volunteer, and share your stories with those who have been where we are right now. Hey I should follow my own advice. Hope this helps.

Don't vegetate at your computer. Get out. Take walks. Go to the park. Get a pet. Take up a new hobby. Go back to school and take some interesting courses at your community college. Go to crafts classes. Go to church. Does your town have an activity center for seniors? We do. And there are loads of opportunities for volunteering: Meals on Wheels; radio and/or reading for the blind; serving at the homeless shelter; etc.

The computer is for your free time when TV bores the living daylights out of you.

Since you have no email address in you contact, how do you expect people to communicate with you.
You can click on our pictures of some of us have email address you can email us. I am 70 and have only been retired 2 years now. And I have a lot of friends through my 360 Blog. this helps also. I have my messenger set so you can send me a off-line message.
I do crafts and make a lot of friends through selling them. I have a dog and she is a great companion to me and I meet a lot of friends through her... [ when I take her to the park and the senior centers.] .
