It isn't a matter of being able to purchase the processor, the problem is will the processor fit in your motherboard socket for the processor, will the processor run and be opterational or will it burn up?

To find out if your laptop is upgradeable you need to go to the manufacturers web site and do the reseach.

Good luck on upgrading your laptop.....

Depends on the laptop. I have a Dell Inspiron 9100 I use here at work and it has a P4 3.2GHz... full P4 (not mobile). So yes, should I desire I could release the cpu and install another one. My limitations would be the Front Side Bus and whatever the fastest processor I could fit - not even sure I could support anything newer than the P4 design so I might be only able to go to 3.4GHz.
So yes, it is possible -- however if you have a laptop which never had the P4 (ie a P3 laptop) then no, you would never be able to get a P4 cpu installed into your laptop.

What, and burn your lap? Pentium 4s are obsolete for laptops or desktops. P4 consumes a lot of electricity. It is HOT and runs down the battery fast. Pentium M (Banias, Dothan) is different, it is more efficient and runs cooler. Core Solo (Yonah) and Core Duo (Yonah2) are better. BUT best is Core2 Duo (Conroe).

depends really, if you want that chip you need a new motherboard designed for pentium 4, it will cost about £150-£200, also you may need to change your graphics card as it may not be compatible with pentium 4, not worth it in my opinion

this will tell you what you have in your laptop and what is going on.
the download is top left hand corner.
it will tell you what socket type you have and give you an idea what your motherboard can handle

Only used from Ebay. It is an old CPU no longer used in laptops.
