I'm sorry, but I don't think that a family has any say in whom their daughter (or in rare times son) marries. I think it is wrong that parents are still making their children marry who they think they should marry--instead of letting their children find their own love and make their own decisions.

I would far rather pick my own husband, someone that I loved, instead of marrying someone my parents picked for money or a status symbol.

What about you guys?

In some cultures, parents choosing their child's spouse is a way to continue to look after their child's welfare after they move out of the house. Parents want the best for their children so finding someone with a good job, personality, integrity, or whatever else would be beneficial to the child is of high priority. The parents also talk with their child to know if they approve of the match beforehand.

Well it is really bad for a person's parents to pick out there spouses for them but hey its parents they always want their child to get married so they can have grankids but some kids let their parents do that becuase they've been listening to them well all their life but still they shouldn't do that good thing my parents don't do that, but usually when parents do that it ends up in a divorce and thats like maybe 46% of the time if im right

Because they are paranoid and controlling like mine. They expect me to have a perfectly good husband and stay with him like the one I have. He's paranoid and controlling like my parents are.
