I think when guitarists mature..they tend to gravitate towards the music that initially inspires or moves them..in Mr Moore case..it's 'The Blues'. On reflection..his more rock orientated stuff is heavily blues influenced and it comes as no surprise that this genre proves to reflect best his diverse and exceptional playing.

I saw Gary Moore a while ago and he plays great blues, there are so many guys playing rock out there. I used to listen to his show on Plannet rock on digital radio and he lives for the blues, its in his DNA.
