when really the question is why would we chose to be something which causes us abuse, outcast among other things. I've been with my girlfriend for 3years, and I really get annoyed when people think its just our choice to love the same sex. By being with my girlfriend for 3years i've lost family members and been shouted at and called all sorts.
So please tell me, all you sceptics out there, why an earth would I choose to be gay?

I am not going for a sympathy vote in the slightest, I am extremeley happy to be in my reatlionship! I am just simply asking why people judge us gay people for what we do and accuse it of being unatural, who exactly stated that straight people are the 'normal' ones when it could be the other way round?

And also I find it quite amusing that certain people say that God does not find it natural - you are the people that live your life through the words of a story book - now I am not saying you are not entitled to your beliefs or I would be just as bad as you for judging, but please, you pray to this so called God of yours over what prove that he is real? A book?

Straight people, for the most part, cannot imagine being born gay...all they can think is that if THEY were to have a same-sex relationship, it would have to be a choice. I once heard a blind man say that for a sighted person to experience what it is like to be blind, he cannot just close his eyes...he has to try to see out the back of his head.

I guess it's because a lot of people can't or would not want to imagine what it's like to be gay and just 'think' that you are this way and that... without having been in your shoes, so they don't really 'know'. Only a gay person would really know whether it's a choice or not.
It's a pity that some of your family members couldn't be happy for your happiness... But life's too short to worry about what other people think, so live life to the fullest no matter what anyone else says.

the choice is to follow your feelings or deny yourself happiness for someone else's sake. NO BRAINER.
but some people have legitimate feelings of love and lust for both genders.some equally but many more favoring one gender more.
Those people do have a very real choice to get married live a priveleged live and have the kids they wanted all along, then ditch the b*tch and come out to the world.
That is despicable behaviour and those are the life-wrecking scumbags who give people the idea that it is a choice.

Its something people say to avoid the truth . All logic says "why would someone choose to be something that would give them more trouble, harassments, discrimination, less rights than other options" is not what most people would choose. But I find the main people who say that are religious and don't want to admit that people who aren't the same as them exist, or they are scared to admit it within themselves cause they know they are gay but to admit it would scare them so they do more to voice against it than anyone else would.

Very well stated!!!! I could'nt agree more! You brought up some interesting topics! I'm universal and open minded to so much that it is hard for me to understand that kind of narrow minded thinking! I am married with four children and I love gay people(good ones anyway) 98% of my friends are gay, the other 2% are bi! I love diversity!!! People often fear or repell what is unfamiliar to them! sad huh? Best of luck to you & yours!

Most, if not all people, have some curiosity growing up about the same sex. Straight people out grow it, and think they choose to be straight. Gay people out grow it, and are gay. Some people hang in the middle or lean to either side. It's called being human.

Surely if you love someone it's the person not their gender or race. I haven't had a gay relationship (yet) but wouldn't cross it off the list. Your family should be more understanding in this day and age, I'm sorry you ahve been treated the way you have. Good luck :)

I agree that we did not choose to be gay, but I believe that we have to come up with a better "come-back" than "why on earth would anyone choose to be one of society's pariahs?" This sort of "come-back" is far too simplistic. There is no short and easy way to demonstrate to other people that sexual orientation is not a choice. Trying to rely on bumper-sticker slogans is not going to be effective.
Coming out of the closet is the best way to overcome other people's prejudices.

Sorry to hear this, I am straight and I have nothing against gay people, many people are still very ignorant, being gay is nothing new, just be proud of what you are and don't let ignorance get you down, at least you have found a loving partner to share your life with.
