You get better foods, more unique recipes, and you don't support the evil empires that giant food conglomerates are.
Everyone in the western world needs to understand the importance of this action phrase; Buy locally. Think globally.
By supporting local business, you help foster a strong local economy and foster free enterprise. By supporting big-business, you crush the entrepreneurial spirit and subjugate yourself to unethical corporations that profiteer.
It just so happens that the two you mentioned are among the most egregious examples of horrible food and profiteering practices.
Apple-bees has a slogan, (Your neighborhood place) Have you ever noticed that no Apple bees is within a thousand yards of any neighborhood? They fry pre packaged IQF (Individual Quantity Frozen)
The have a mediocre selection, nothing original or unique and are awful to their employees.

Here's their proper slogan: "Toxic Hell... Run from the odor!"
