look, we had to do some repairs in the house and we also had to go to work. Last week a guy came to do some repair things and we had to leave him alone and go to work.

last night i just wanted to login my ebay account and suddenly i saw an unknown ID appeared in the id field. ( you know that via cookies once you enter a name or something, when you just duble click the already-enteries would show up ). So when i saw that unknown ID appeared i shocked.

I though i ended up that the young guy from last week had turned my laptop on and checked his eBay account. Now i wanna sue the company where he works for.

Apart from what i explained, how else you think i can prove that he did such nasty thing ? I need to be prepared before i move.

Thanks for any tip

Since it is ebay and a secure website i suggest the following:
mail to ebay administrators and say to check the mac-address that logged from your IP.
Since you are the only one who is using that IP and mac address i don't think it will be an issue.
By these two the cops usually get people who steal laptops (going to internet providers and ask them to check mac addresses online).
When you mail, explain your problem in detail and tell them you understand that most info is confidential.
Try to give them the name of the dude who did this thing and e-bay just to confirm the login from your computer with yes/no.
If you suspect any kind of fraud you can go to the police and they can contact ebay for you if the one above fails.
hope it helps ;)

hmmnn, i can understand how you'd be pretty annoyed if someone accessed your computer without your permission, but using your computer to check his ebay account is like using your coffee jug to boil some water an make himself a coffee. It didn't actually cause you any harm or your laptop for that matter as far as i can tell, and so there is really no point in sueing as there is no real case to claim to for damages...

plus I know this might be not what you would want to hear right now, but if someone else using your computer would annoy you enough to sue, then you should have defintely locked the computer via a password which would have been more than enough to deter someone one who want to check his/her ebay.

I typically log into my accounts when testing my repairs.

As long as he didn't mess with your stuff, I think that's ok.

Pc's are just tools. THink of it as a rake, typewriter or calculator. I guess what I'm saying is don;t become too attached.

You DO have offsite backups of all your data right? You do have sensitive areas encrypted, right? If not, he usage simply pointed out the weeknesses of your system.

I think it was a cheap lesson, and a wakeup call for you.

I would send the guy a thank-you card.

So a man logged onto his ebay account on your computer which was obviously not password protected. Firstly you are being completely unreasonable in even thinking this is something worth suing over, he hasnt caused you any pain so i don't see the need to sue him. You really have an issue, work it out.

Contact the company complaining, ge the time of the login and then explain that the guy was there and ask for compensation for him using equiptment he was not authorised to use and that you dont know if anything has happened to your comp damage wise

Hi, how are you?

I don't think he did that. Also, did you contact ebay by phone?

They can tell you the ip address abd time of the person who changed the password!

1st thing is - it's your own fault he managed to do it if you don't password protect your computer at login level.

As for suing his company, it will cost you more in fees, & time, than you will win ... and thats if you can find someone who will take on such a trivial little matter

He didn't hurt anything I would just let it go, but it could be a possible breach of privacy. I would probably ignore it personally but if it offends you..
