When the McCann problems first hit the news opinion was divided on Yahoo answers as to a number of things. Opinion was divided, but there was a certain amount of respect for each others views.

It would appear now though that respect has totally flown out of the window and its has been replaced by total abusiveness. The anti v pro debate used to actually be quite interesting, but now there is nothing but abuse abuse and more abuse. With anyone that doesnt agree with someone elses views just being down right nasty to that individual.

Anyone else agree?

If its old news, why is it still being talked about?

I think most of us are in total agreement here. The trolls and trouble makers have caused a lot of problems. There are also the Mr and Mrs Angry who are unable to debate or control their anger. As well as this charmless bunch, there are also those who post utterly tasteless and offensive questions which neither pros nor antis like at all. The sooner such questions and comments are ignored the better for everyone.

There is clearly an ultra-pro McCann clan and an ultra-anti McCann clan doing battle over the Internet. I would like to think that they are a small but vocal group.

I am part of the Pro-Madeleine clan, who I believe includes most of the readers and writers of this venue.

Bad manners seem to be a pervasive part of most Internet avenues (Chat, email, Blogs, etc.) so it should not surprise us that even questions as serious as to how to find Madeleine would be bogged down by them.

So, yes there is too much abuse, but if you tune it out there are also a large population of messages from people who care about Maddy, her family and the other children who are still missing.

you are right, it has become more abusive and when evidence or spiteful opinions are challenged, I find you get a personal challenge to your opinion that is often aggressive. I have remained peaceful throughout this debate, and have come up for quite a ribbing at times. Many folk have been violated and reported and it seems they are angry about the folk they think is responsible rather than looking at the offensivness of what they are saying. It is a site for freedom of speech, but obviously there should be some boundries which I have seen breeched many times.
In that sense, I completly agree with you
Eden - I agree with you too, If you can't stand the heat ....get out, I usually go off to R&S to get me peaceful head on and have a laugh over their arguing instead.

I have posted about 3 or 4 questions or views about the Mccann case, mostly all answerers have been very respectful wether agreeing with my point of view or not, but when you get a few people down right insulting you or using verbal abuse, i just ignore them basically, I think these petty minded people just try to annoy other people to get some sort of thrill out of it. Personally I will not lower myself to even think about answering them, it's just not worth the hassle. They call the anti-Mccann's sick people, or say "God another question". As alot of us Anti-Mccann's have said if you do not like my question or statement, then don't bother to answer....

Wether we are Pro or Anti-Mccann, the only thing we all have in common is that we wish for this little girl to be found safe and unharmed, these insulting and abusive people seem to have forgotten this aspect of the debates, i think......

I agree .. it was ....

There is little respect and it has turned into a nasty spat where people on both sides think by being abusive it is adding to a healthy debate...

I have had nasty emails because i do not agree with someone and i have to admit this whole thing is becoming childish and out of hand...

We have our opions and we are entitled to them .. We need to show each other respect after all we are adults and not children in the playground..

We have to agree to disagree without resorting to abusive posts

I agree with you totally. I used to participate in the McCann debate avidly, but once I started receiving e-mails threatening my children, I wised up and realised some people were using the site to start vendettas and not to actually bring anything constructive to the issue.
Now it's just a chat site with people fighting each other, and rather than ignoring the trolls people insist on answering them, which only fuels the animosity, and those that join in the feud probably end up finding themselves the next target.
It's better to visit some of the other categories where you can actually have a reasonable question and answer discussion with people who are there for the right reasons.

I don't know what's the matter with people who give abusive answers, not only on this subject but on any subject - if you don't like the question, just ignore it. What's the point in giving an answer that's going to wind up other contributors just for the sake of it? If you've got a genuine view that differs from the opinions of other contributors that's fine, but there's nothing to be achieved in abuse.

Unfortunately we have not moved on. It's brought out the best and worst in people and at times it has got personal and vitriolic. I thought I was joining in debates but apparantly not. I have never dis-respected anyone and have always given my answers in a respectful way I hope. Abuse needs to be dealt with and on that note, after being on a night shift I am away to bed !

I agree totally with Faith and Bugaboo.

The abusiveness comes mostly from some new troll posters who come on here only to stir up and cause trouble.

The genuine posters, both pro and anti McCann still debate their opinion with respect for each other even though there is a difference of opinion.

I agree with all you say. We must show more respect for others views on this issue. This little girl is still missing and her parents must still be frought with worry. I now fear the worse, for quite a while I thought they'd find her, but now I'm no so sure. I hope her family finally get closure one way or the other so they can learn to get on with their lives.
