If your currently running Microsoft Windows XP, try Visual Studio Express http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/ they also have streaming tutorial videos, just search for it on that website.

I believe the person refering to the fading out of Python long ago was thinking of something else, Perl likely, I don't know how to position Python but it is a language newer than Java, perhaps C# is older by comparison, it is easy to learn but probably limited as a prototypical product for some real thing.

C is not a good choice for beginner. I would stay on the side of interpreted programming environment.

If you want to create windows programs, skip the C and Python and C++ and .... Visual Basic is the way to go if you are new to programming. But don't let the name mislead you. It is a very powerful language.

I would try C++, since it is widely used and has more support. It can also be used on other OS's besides Windows(Linux,mac,etc..) Any of the .NET languages only work on Windows, so if you want to make programs for other OS's then C++ is your best bet. (Starting with C is ok, but starting with C++ is better in my opinion, it is still easy to me.) But, if you want to learn programming in an even easier way try Game Maker. www.gamemaker.nl or www.yoyogames.com Very very good for beginners. ^_^

For ease of understanding VB6 and VB.Net are the way to go since they are quite verbose. But as others have stated before C is the best way to start programming...Stick to it learn it methodically i.e. basics, structures, arrays, pointers, functions, etc... and then you have a wide choice of programming languages to learn next since all the rest is peanuts then...Cheers!

Go with C. Python already starts to fade out (in fact since long ago). Unless you are intending to maintain legacy system in the future.

i won't be able to tell you what you may learn because of the fact i do no longer understand you; inspite of the incontrovertible fact that, the determination could be worry-free so you might make. own abode page = information superhighway Programming C# = application progression are you drawn to making information superhighway pages or purposes? nonetheless learn the two one in each of them, it is totally reliable experience.

Our office of 4000 people ONLY uses .NET for new projects (if at all possible).

I'd learn that first and expand form there.
