The atmosphere is getting thinner as gases are lost to space, but it will take trillions of years before that becomes a threat. The biggest issue with the atmosphere getting "Thinner" is the loss of Carbon Dioxide which will happen around 500 million years from now (and no, global warming isn't goign to affect it all that much), which will kill most if not all plants on Earth. Lack of oxygen will then kill animals. There is the possibility that some small amount of plants will remain, but rising temperature wil kill the animals anyway.
Later on, arond one or two billion years from now, the oceans will start to disappear- it's also happening now, but very slowly. As the sun heats up, it will become a serious issue. The atmosphere then gets thicker and thicker as more water vapour fills it up, which may cause a "runaway greenhouse effect", which would kill any bacteria still left. Even if it doesn't, erventually the sun will get so hot that limestone will decompose and superheat the Earth.
But don't worry, none of this will happen for a while- plenty of time for us to get the hell off Earth before it's too late.
The ozone layer disappearing is a more immediate issue. It will not strictly disappear, but as it thins, it will cause mroe skin cancers, eye cataracts, and other health problems, as well as screwing up plankton levels, which in turn affects the whole oceanic food chain.

Earths atmosphere is very thin compared to most other worlds but it isn´t really getting thinner. If it did all life would perish.
The atmosphere was probably 70 times as dense once. But earth hasn´t lost its atmosphere to space like Mars has. Instead chemical reactions has depleted it. Most of earths atmopshere is locked up as carbonate rock and iron ore. The nitrogen is the only ingredient from the primordial atmosphere that is left. And as it is virtually inert it will remain there. Only when the sun has grown enough, in a billion years or so, to make it possible for the nitrogen to reach escape energy will we begin to loose it. Until then don´t worry about it. Atmosphere is still locked up due to living organisms turning CO2 into carbonate shells but as long as the earth is geoligically active CO2 will be returned in the atmosphere. If it weren´t for earths volcanoes spewing out millions of tonnes of CO2 each year earths atmosphere would be all nitrogen. And there wouldn´t be very much living outside the oceans.
Earth also loose some hydrogen as watermolcecules break down high in the atmosphere because of ultraviolet radiation with the single hydrogen atoms reaching eascape energy. But earth is also bombarded by hundred of tonnes of spacedebris each year. Alot of it containing water and hydrogen so this hydrogen lost is also replenished.
