Under the current administration in Washington, DC, it would be a grave mistake to admit being wrong about an issue as big as the war in Iraq. In the near future, I believe someone new will step in and say that it was a mistake.

The Sunnis, Shiites, and Kurds will probably never live together as one big, happy family and everybody knows this.

For this reason, I believe new boundaries should be drawn dividing Iraq into distinct nations (a la the former Republic of Yugoslavia, which is now known as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia) and giving sovereignty to each of the three major groups there.

The consequences of leaving could be even greater for the Iraqi people. Obviously the war was a huge mistake but what do you think is going to happen if America pulls out? They'll all shake hands?
If insurgents get into power you could be looking at another Taliban style rule, where the Kurds will suffer most of all. If they do not you are looking at many years of civil war.
Given that America created this situation, it does have some responsibility for resolving it.

How much money, effort, etc. are you willing to spend to stay alive?

An example: we fight disease.
We will never "win".
There will always be disease.
Every once in a while, it will get in a real good shot.
We won't always be able to catch/destroy the disease that got someone.
Since we can't win, and people keep dying, we should...

...give in? Die?

Some people have some very strange ideas about the war on terror, thinking there is a "win" sometime in the future.

The pay off is that we survive. It doesn't end. We could go back to doing nothing. They attack, we go, "Naughty, naughty" and we watch as they get stronger and stronger.

Not the best idea. We did that for many years.

read the first two responses and there is your answer...
people really believe that the war is a good thing...and it will be worse if we stop it...
from what I am seeing...its getting worse and worse every month...
but think about it...if the country you had lived in all of your life was invaded and occupied by another country's army...wouldn't you want to do everything you could to get rid of them...
I think the real issue with all this terrorism stuff is...what is it that these people want? What has them so motivated that they will actually kill themselves to try and change it? Its not a matter of negotiating with terrorists...there is an inherent problem that exists that makes them terrorists...shouldn't it be some body's job to find out what that is?
there is no way that you can be prepared to stop every person that wants to commit a terrorist attack...its just not possible.
Clearly our resources can be used in better ways, that case fewer people to be killed.

It is okay to leave when Iraq is a secure country and they are able to govern themselves without fear of extremists attacking a democratic government. There is no time/money/death limit that should be in place, you leave when the job is done.

Hey, MAC.

The consequences of leaving COULD be as drastic as the consequences of staying actually ARE.

The POTENTIAL of two dead birds in the bush, is not as bad as the already rotting corpse of the bird in your hand.
