when whilst the price of a barrel of Oil has risen (in $) the value of the $ continues to decline against £.

Shouldn't these two cancel each other out?

I think that the dollar/pound has been having an affect on the cost of petrol. It was reported recently that the cost of petrol in the UK has been relatively flat compared to other countries. The demand, particularly in the Far East has been rising and the poor summer has also been detrimental in the domestic market. It's also nearing road trip time in the US.

Or it could be aliens...

You'd think, but America can print as much money as they want, as opposed to here in the UK. We HAVE to have the same amount of money in gold to print 'paper money'. You see now this smoking ban has come into place the government needs to get the extra money from somewhere. People are quitting smoking, so not paying as much money to the government, people aren't drinking as much so they're loosing about 12mil a year with beer alone. The prices of thins will be escalating, people are quitting smoking because they don't want to go outside, so therefore people will live longer, be on the pension scheme longer. Which we'll have to pay for because the tax will go up. There'll be more riots on fri/sat nights because there'll be people outside pubs alot of people bumping into each other and drunk. That'll cause more fights, which will in turn cause more nhs staff to work more and get more in debt and then something else will raise in price so the government can still keep everything it wants. We are in affect paying for all the **** ups the government are making by deciding on this ridiculous ban :>

So no, I am not surprised it's going up, and you'd think it'll cancel it out. I mean, it makes sense doesn't it? But the UK still needs to get its money from somewhere, and it's easy getting it off its own people.

Pure greed, oil companies and government know we HAVE to have fuel, they just push you a bit at a time, everybody moans, then its all forgotten about until they bump up the price again. Its about time VAT was knocked off fuel, it is no longer a luxury. Everything has been engineered to ensure you HAVE to use it. EG, closure of local shops and post offices (due to excessive business protection, sorry rates, cheap rates for out of town shopping centres (with free parking and no traffic wardens), and, if government really wanted you to use less fuel, speed humps would be scrapped and traffic signals would start making traffic flow again, like they used to.

A MAJOR RETHINK IS LONG OVERDUE.

We are all over the barrel by the big oil companies.

If they think they can make money off of your petrol purchases, they will raise prices until people stop buying - which won't happen anytime soon.
